  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have fasted many times. sometimes a day sometimes a week, still others up to 42 days. But through it all I have learned that if I start a fast I usually cannot finish what I want to do. but everytime He leads me into a fast I always finish without any major problems.

One thing that I want you to realize it is that most of us cannot fast because our bodies are addicted to the sugars and other items that we eat. We can end up in depression if we are not careful. We must be led by God, on any fast that we do. I have noticed there have been times where I have been very irrtable because of not eating and the closest comparison that I can make, it is like a drug addict denied a fix.

Grace and peace patrick

The longest I can force myself to fast without food whatsoever is 24 hours. It's so hard....

And I don't even eat that much, so don't think I'm a glutton!

This is a wondeful reason FOR fasting. When one becomes addicted to anything, we have allowed ourselves to be controlled by something outside of God Himself. These things have become idols. The guidelines of fasting as set down by the church lead one to healthy eating as well as spiritual growth.

Peace.

I think that the more you like to eat, the more of a sacrifice a shorter fast is. My first full-day fast was almost a torture, and I don't mean just for my stomach. It was almost a psychological pain.
And it was made doubly hard by my mom's offers to go out for dinner. I felt like crying as I turned her down. How mysterious my lack of desire must have seemed to her, since I love to go out to eat!
But I really hope that those of us who like to eat will someday learn how to not rely on food so much as a crutch. Food really isn't a big deal. Assess your desire to eat by remembering the taste and feel of food in your tummy and remind yourself that it really isn't all your stomach is making it out to be.

My sympathies to those who love to eat and are taking 24-hour fasts, because to us they are actually pretty hard to do. Someday I hope to take a successful three-day fast, but that'll take some practice.

Hi,

I am writing a book on prayer and fasting and noticed this forum. I would be interested in any fasting testimonials. Please send them to me by e-mail:
Rod@ProvisionUnlimited.com and keep them under 50 words if possible. Please also include your approval to publish them in the book and if you want your name used. Thanks!

Blessings,

Pastor Rod Nichols

You don't have to just fast from food. The basic idea of fasting is freeing up time to spend with the Lord. Back in those days, they didn't have the distractions of radio, TV or the internet. I can suggest spending a fast from TV or something simliar. You rapidly begin to realize your 'addictions' when you are faced without them (lol). Or you could not listen to the radio while you are in your car for a week. Oftentimes I find that God is trying to takl to me but if I am rocking out in my car constantly how is He possibly supposed to get through to me?!
