  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

TITLE XI: THE RECKONING OF TIME

Can. 200 Unless the law provides otherwise, time is to be reckoned in accordance with the following canons.

Can. 201 §1 Continuous time means unbroken time.

§2 Canonical time is time which a person can so use to exercise or to pursue a right that it does not run when one is unaware, or when one is unable to act.

Can. 202 §1 In law, a day is understood to be a space of twenty-four hours, to be reckoned continuously and, unless expressly provided otherwise, it begins at midnight; a week is a space of seven days a month is a space of thirty days, and a year a space of three hundred and sixty-five days, unless it is stated that the month and the year are to be taken as in the calendar.

§2 If time is continuous, the month and the year are always to be taken as in the calendar.

Can. 203 §1 The first day is not to be counted in the total, unless its beginning coincides with the beginning of the day, or unless the law expressly provides otherwise.

§2 Unless the contrary is prescribed, the final day is to be reckoned within the total; if the total time is one or more months, one or more years, one or more weeks, it finishes on completion of the last day bearing the same number or, if the month does not have the same number, on the completion of the last day of that month

So if it's only observed to change at midnight, why do Saturday night services count for Sunday obligation?
-Catherine
becuase theres an expetion to ever rule :) in the case of Sunday obligation the church has ruled that it is meet from Sundown on Saterday to Midnight on sunday thus comping the old tradition of time with the new.

I should have mentioned this in my first post: One must also keep in mind if they are trying to meet just the letter of the law or the intent of the law.

The following is an example and not ment to imply to the intentions of any one in this thread or reading this thread.
Ask your self does fasting all day and then gorging ones self at midnight realy meet the goal of peance?

On Ash Wednesday I had two small Famous Amos Cookes (itty bitty bite size), one medium fry, half a fish sandwich, water and a coffee. Just now 3:44 am (just got off of work) I ate one meatless burrito. (I had wanted chips and queso but I didn't get it). I read this and I just don't know if I did right or not. Well, anyway I gave up meat for the whole of Lent (plus a few other things). Wish me luck! Or rather pray for me and I will pray that everyone keeps their Lenten promises and that they help them in their walk with our Lord. :)

Dosn't sound like You did nothing wrong to me :) We must all rember the key is not to be legalistict. One should be focusing on the sacrfice of our Lord not what is required for us.
