I posted this over on the Fasting forums too but wanted to post it here also. If anyone would be interested in fasting as a group the first full three weeks of January for the upcoming year (Jan. 8 - 21) I would love to form a group.
This won't be a total fast for 3 full weeks, but a Daniel Fast (vegey's and water only) for the first 2 weeks, then an entire food fast the 3rd weeks.
Anyone interested?

My hubby & I were talking about going on a Daniel Diet to start the New Year..

I was trying to find the 'rules' online.. Our pastor at Alpha & Omega said he is going to do it too.. Fruits in the mornings.. Veggies in the afternoon.. fruits at night..

Is that how it goes??

Interestingly enough, that was exactly the times and dates I was going to do exactly the same thing.

I am fasting from now until the 5th for myself. To eat in moderation over the weekend, and then start a three week fast for the United Kingdom.

Please stand with me, and I will stand with you. This has honestly been the hardest season of fasting in my life. And I don't say that lightly.

Cheers,
Z

God bless those of you embarking on such a discipline.

A reminder to others though; prolonged fasting is not for everyone.
Do only what the Lord asks of you and all will be well.
Don't feel inferior or under condemnation if the fast you are called to is different.

God bless, love Sue

Three weeks?!?!!?

My blood sugar would probably go whacko and I would keel over dead.
Fasting is a supernatural thing. Do it only if God tells you to, and he will give you the grace for it. Meaning it won't be unbearable and you won't get sick.

So, I'm in for this... Starting today, yes? Good. :p
Sorry, I was gone for so long. You can start today if you like, but the actual corporal fast is starting next Sunday, the eighth.

So for everyone who plans on doing this, let's keep this thread up and going as our support team. This will be my first long term fast, so I know that I will definitely need some support from my brothers and sisters.

My church is doing it's usual ritual of a 3-day fast and prayer time Monday through Wednesday. I'll be fasting along with that, and if the Lord calls me to continue fasting after that, I shall do so with confidence in knowing that you are all there doing the same thing. This will be my first fast, and it's kinda ironic since my doctor wanted me to set ups a fast with him sometime soon.

God bless you all!

So very true!

When I have 'decided' to do a fast, it is hard and grueling.

But, when God tells me to do it, it is very bearable and all is well.

I learned the hard way to only fast when I am told to by God!;)

I learned the hard way too! Good thing I learned on the first time it happened. :D

The worst thing about it was a little bit of uncomfortable hunger. But certainly not unbearable or enough to make me sick. :)

There are times when you can decide to go on a fast. Nothing wrong with that. I wouldn't do it for an extended period of time, but if you went without food for a day or two and did it just because you love God and want to spend time with him and focus on him, I am sure he won't mind.

Actually, I know he doesn't.

Cheers,

How do you know for how long you are going to fast for, and what kind of fast?

I agree that certain kind of fasts are not for everyone. Blood sugar is a consideration, if it has a tendency to go wacko. I know how I can get. LOL

Yeah, sometimes you can't do it when you feel God unction you to, because the most appropriate time to fast is when you are in a spiritual 'valley, or when you aren't feeling God move within you. If you are fasting because you are in a valley, then it would be an oxymoron to say to only fast if you feel God tell you to. You know what I mean?

I tried to start a fast recently and failed, and that was a juice fast! I felt so ill, weak and irritable that I could not face all the work I had to do. Fasting and working don't seem to go together for me.

Sometimes you have to set aside a few days when you can fully devote yourself to a fast.
