Fasting for a Relationship

My girlfriend and I of 3 years recently parted ways, and to say the least I am extremely heartbroken. The sad thing is I'm pretty sure she's the one God truly wants me to be with. We recently both began attending the same college. I handled the transition well, but she is still having trouble. She is extremely homesick and worried. I feel that she's simply troubled and hasn't lost feelings for me. I was wondering if fasting for her well being as well as mine, and eventually -ours- would be alright. She is truly special to me, and as I mentioned before I'm pretty sure she's the one God wants me to be with. How would I go about praying before and after the fast, and how long should the fast be? I've already began today with a one day fast of food and drink. I also know that I might be mistaken in her being the one for me, even though thats a painful topic. I know I should pray and hope for God's will to be done, but I can't help but wish and pray that His will is for us to be together. So, should I fast and pray that we get together, or fast and pray for an answer as whether we are meant to be together or not? Thanks for taking time to read this and respond, your kindness is truly welcome.

I'm really interested in an answer for this because I'm kind of going through the same thing right now. Sooo I'm sorry this isn't any advice, but I'm hoping that someone will see a new comment and give some insight haha.

I'm not an expert on fasting and reasons to fast..but when it comes to God and His will we have to remember that God sees the overall picture where we only see a tiny fraction. In my opinion praying that God's will should be this or that...isn't that another way of praying to have your own way?

If it were me I'd pray for guidance and understanding of what's Gods will in this situation.

But that's me...

Hi, Pat!

I have found that fasting helps me with almost any stressful situation I am dealing with in life. Currently, in my life I fast about every third day. Some times a couple of meals, some times a day and a half.

My perspective always improves.

But I always pray for God to reveal His will to me. I don't try to persuade Him to bring something into being until I am positive thats what He wants to do.

People want to know how I can be positive? All I can say, is you will know when you get there. Once you have the will of God, then press ahead with all your prayer power to ask Him to bring it into being.

Remember Daniel had to wait 21 days for the answer to his prayers because of the spiritual battle in heaven.

praying for you.

i agree with you Nilla. i think that you should be honest with God. Let him know that you'd like to be together, but also let him know that you will accept his descision (remember that God has only good plans for you ;]) and pray that he keeps you strong, whatever happens.

Take care & God bless you
