  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I can't do total fasting for very long right now...i'm almost hypoglosemic(sp?), well i very well may actually be, i've just never had it checked out. But anyway, if i don't eat too many meals in a row, it gets nasty. Irritable and about to faint, shaking...not fun. But I'm trying to see if I can pull it off...so if you see a headline, "Girl Collapses in Texas high school from fasting"...probably me :D

Thanks. And don't worry, y'all. I'm not going to totally stop eating right away and die ;) just i'm trying to eat less because I realize I eat as much as 20 people from third world countries, and I don't want to be so wasteful. Prayer is much appreciated :)

Supermagdalena--Please don t make youself sick. I am boarderline hypogycemic too. i have always been wiry--runs in my family--and I could probably fast I just don t feel the Lord is leading me to do so at this time.
As for feeling guilty because yoou try and fail to me that guilt is from the devil. The Lord know your heart.--The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.

Didymus: Don't worry, I'm not going to not eat at all. I'm just cutting down some of my intake because I realized I don't need a lot of the food I eat (I used to be able to eat an entire pizza  ) Once I did stop eating because I was sick and I had no appetite. After a week, I flipped out entirely. I was shaking and about to faint, but I couldn't eat. My dad (being a great dad :) ) shoved some crackers down my mouth, and i started to feel better. I learned my lesson from that that much fasting very long for me is not such a great idea. A very bad one, actually, since I'm naturally pretty underweight and don't need to lose any (my doctor said gain). So I shan't be trying that. :)

Fasting is good almost anytime.
If you are not in proper weight, you can do things like small fasts, or "the daniel fast". Which is fasting from meats and sweets.

Fasting makes you stronger over your feelings. Your feelings will try to get you to eat, so you stretch your patience by going through a fast.

fasting imo is one of the best things you can do as a christian it strengthens your relationship with God and you have the greatest sence of impowerment after reaching your goal

for me it was sortof wierd the first time i did it cause i'm about 20 pounds overwieght for my hieght and i fealt that if i did it to lose wieght that would be the wrong reason but i was wrong it still strengthened my relationship with Christ

my first successfull fast was 7 days without any food sortof like a juicefast but i at the time refused to give up my coffee ....... go figure

the second fast i did was about 2 weeks ago a friend of mine had just pulled me out of a huge backslide and i decided maybe a fast and rededication of my faith life were in line and i found out that paul did a 3day total fast no food or water so i decided to try that it was so impowering it was what helped me break out of my sin and start over for a second time this has to have been one of the hardest things i ever did not the food particularly but the water that was insanely hard but it was worth it no i've broken away from my sin and am completely on fire for Christ

one note should be made if you plan on fasting plz plz do your research because you could potentaly hurt yourself or even kill yourself

hope this helps for anyone interested in fasting :)

what about you all?

I don't fast often anymore, but the most I've ever done was three days (I think).

How do long fasts benefit you spiritually, in your experience?

I remember the first time I did a tough fast. Afterwards, my thoughts were different, more a lack of. I didn't have hardly any nagging or bad thoughts compared to before.
This enabled me to concentrate harder on things around me, like chess for instance. Me and my dad played every day, but we would spit the win/loss record. After that fast I beat him hands down for the remainder of the time I spent with him.

Its like a dog and owner relationship, you whip your flesh into shape.
Its always trying to get its way, but if you practice denying it, then you gain strength over it. This mostly happens in your thoughts, where the battle is.
