I use E-Sword, the freeware, not because it's cheap (it's freeware, except some modules), but because of the layout:
-- Bible window (tabs to see various translations)
-- dictionary window (again, tabs to see many dictionaries)
-- commentary window, which doubles as
-- journal or notebook (for taking notes) LINKED TO VERSES (so when you change the Bible verse, relevant notes can pop up)
While there are a few hiccups in the program (not being able to highlight commentaries), I'm overall very pleased with it, especially compared to the few others I tried about five years ago.
But it takes almost 4 or 5 MINUTES to load the program, and about that long to shut down when I'm finished. Photoshop and Word don't take but seconds to load and close.
And you have to plan a search of study notes, because it takes several minutes for the search window to appear. (The program loads all your notes into memory before searching I guess, instead of indexing.)
I just can't stand it anymore. I've upgraded my laptop (new model) and it didn't help noticeably, so I suppose it's a resource problem (loading all those windows into memory).
Does anyone have a recommendation for another Bible study program that has a better load and close time? I need the journal, but I suppose I could do without the other features (since I'm thinking all those features is what hogs resources).
