This show was set in a New York city high school for the arts. It was based on the movie of the same name. I must not have watched it much at the time because I don't remember it being on very long. But I just found out it lasted about six years.

In my opinion the series was much better than the movie. My favorite characters were Bruno (the music student) and Doris (the drama student).

When it was on, I think I was in junior high or high school. My friends and I watched it regularly. I also liked Doris.

The soundtrack was awesome. I used to havea record (vinyl) of the songs from Fame. My favorite was "I Still Believe In Me" which was sung by CoCo and the dance teacher after they had each suffered some sort of heartbreak.

I bought the first season DVD. Bruno was great on keyboards, but he had a very weak singing voice. Fortunately they didn't feature his vocals very often.

I've never been to New York. On the show they mention the "dangerous" subways. I've heard that the subways in New York have gotten safer since then. But I don't know if that's true.
