  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Romans 13:9 "...You shall love your neighbor as you love yourself."

Any number of passages, from Exodus and Proverbs to John and 1 Corinthians, warn against bearing false witness. Perhaps your sister needs to be made aware you view her as such? I know I need a swift kick time and again when I'm screwing up, and I typically prefer that someone close to me does it. Hope that helps.

We are not to judge a persons salvation because only the Lord knows the heart but if she is sinning, you are to go to her in love and tell her the truth. I have a sister who says shes a Christian too but is living with her boyfriend and doesnt think Jesus would mind at all because 'its the 21st century after all' . All I can do is keep telling her the truth and its up to her to decide what she accepts and rejects. Thats all we can do, the rest is up to the Holy Spirit.

I know its frustrating.

2 John says to stay away from those who claim Christ but teach or believe a different Gospel. When someone claims to be a CHristian and continues in sin there is a time when we no longer wlecome them at our table. That is the biblical answer. Being as she is physical family, well, I would love her and treat her like a normal sister. If she is trully claiming the name of Christ and is in sin then church discipline should come into play regardless.

Does God say something about not associating with false christian's?My sister is a fake christian claims to be but doesn't live the life, should I ignore her when I'm not trying to help her with the faith.
You might be the only person praying for her so you are in an important position as far as her faith is concerned. Your support may make all the difference for her and your prayers may be the reason that she may get filled with the Spirit and catch fire for God.

My brother is not Christian and is totally opposed to the faith, and yet after 40 years of seeing my journey of faith, he recently told me that I must be genuine because I would not have stuck with it so long. This was very encouragement to me because this might be the first step toward him receiving faith to come to Christ for his salvation.

Having you there, your sister is as close as possible to being a genuine Christian, so I would encourage you to stick with her and be her walking "conscience" to be used as a means for the Holy Spirit to do His work in her. And don't hesitate to testify of your faith in Christ, and the things that the Lord tells you from day to day. This will give her a good view of how a genuine Christian lives from day to day in fellowship with the Lord.

This brings to mind a sermon a friend of mine preached and gave me a copy of called "In A Rut" Maybe she is just in a rut and needs you to just be there for her but does not want to come right out and say so. Pray about it and see what God reveals. ALso, I remember a passage saying that if we see one sinning or not doing the right thing, we are to go to that one and if they repent and turn back to the Lord we have gained a brother, or in this case a sister, for Jesus.

It would be like somebody standing in the boat and is starting to falter (waver) and you give an extra push to throw them overboard. She will see you ignoring her and her heart will become more bitter as opposed to more softer. Then what will you accomplish? Sometimes, witnessing is better done by our behavior and attitude towards the people rather than pushing doctrine down their throat. Love softens the hearts. The letter of the law kills. Kindness brings results. Preaching the doctrine turns people away.

The Bible says: do not be unequally yoked. That means don't do the things she does, don't share in her deeds or her attitude.

But the Bible also says: love your enemies.

LOVE her.

It doesn't matter what doctrines who believes. We are commanded to love. And only God truly knows who is false and who is not. Sometimes the things we use (the criteria) for judging who is false and who is not are wrong... It's safer not to judge. But just to love her like you would any other person: be it your enemy or your neighbor.

You can't really know when someone is, as you say it, a "false Christian." God knows their heart. It may appear to you they are just going through the motions, or that they don't have faith, or they don't live life as a Christian should. We're all at different stages of our walk, have different struggles to overcome and sins to be ironed out, different ways of accomplishing that, different events and time they "wake up." It would be dangerous to choose our association with others based on our views of their salvation.

My two bits: Keep your focus on you and your relationship with Jesus. Give your sister the same love, mercy, and grace that God has given you. Trust in God.

Yes I say also share scripture with her sharing the truth of the lord pray and ask god to guide you to show her the right way.Ignoring her wont help her.God wants to see all turn to him and that none shall perish.

If the roles were reversed, and it was she who was the "real Christian" and you who were the fake, would you want her to give up on you?

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. (Luke 6:31)

I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another. (John 13:34)

How have you been loved by God? Compassionately. With great mercy.

For ALL have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. (romans 3:23) That means you & she both are unworthy of God's glory, and even of His mercy toward you. And yet, He is merciful still. The difference between a Christian and a non-Christian is that the Christian has accepted Jesus sacrifice for their sins, and believes that He is the Son of God who died & was resurrected by God the Father. A non-Christian does not believe this. Does your sister believe this? Are you deciding that she does not deserve salvation based on her behavior, and if so, does this mean that you believe you do deserve salvation? Remember, none are worthy. Not one. And if she accepts Jesus as her Savior, then you must leave her walk with Him, between she and Him. He will change her from the inside out, but you are not able to do so, and rejecting her won't make it happen sooner. Love her, be an example of compassionate love toward her. Let God love her through you. :)

Matthew 18:21-22
Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, "Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times?" Jesus answered, "I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.

Luke 6:37
Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.

Matthew 6:14-16
For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

Mark 11:25
And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.

I suggest reading 2 John.

This is what Scripture tells us about how to act towards false teachers, or those who claim Christ but believe a different gospel. I would suggest that false convert fit that as well
2Jn 1:10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house, and do not give him a greeting;
2Jn 1:11 for the one who gives him a greeting participates in his evil deeds.
