I have Oblivion and Fallout 3 (both on pc). I prefer Oblivion because it's an old fashioned mythical RPG and it is made with beautiful quests and ideas.Whereas Fallout 3 is a great game but compared to Oblivion, it seems like an FPS with a few short quests.

There are a few things that Fallout 3 has over oblivion. In my opinion these are:
*You can take all by pressing A
*Immersive menus like the Pip-Boy
*GUNS
*The lockpicking system.

There are also many things i prefer about Oblivion:
*Most of the buildings are intact, so you don't get "broken concrete scenery" over the WHOLE map
*Buying houses are an excellent touch to gameplay and immersion.
*Many more quests.
*Cool magic like telekinesis and invisibility.
*There are more people and Guilds.
*You can enchant weapons and armor + make new spells.

I played and beat both, and prefer Oblivion easily. As much as I loved Fallout initially, it got boring very quickly, and the game just felt really empty! I rarely trade in games, and that one had to go.

Baldur's Gate is excellent. You can't really compare it to Oblivion because that's a bit of an apples and oranges type of deal, but I don't think I've ever gotten as much mileage out of a game as I have out of Baldur's Gate 2. The first one is also excellent, and if you buy both and both expansion packs there's even a mod that links all four together so it's all one seamless game.

Unless you mean the PS2 games. Those are a LOT of fun and playing them co-op is a really enjoyable experience, but they're nowhere near the level of the PC ones. If you're looking for mindless fun with a buddy you can't really get any better, but for a serious game experience you need the PC version.

And in response to the thread, I vote Morrowind ;)

I actually haven't played Fallout 3 but I really enjoyed Oblivion. Out of the box the game was rubbish, but with all the great mods out there, all of which are so easy to install, it takes almost no time to make the game excellent. Start by fixing the broken levelling and treasure system ;)

I voted Fallout 3 too: the atmosphere was just wonderful whereas Oblivion's was almost a bit dull. Don't get me wrong, it was a good game and I easily sank 100+ hours into it and everything, but it just didn't seem to all come together. I agree with others that Oblivion is flat-out broken without mods to remove the frankly absurd 'everything levels with you' system (which is present in Fallout 3 to an extent, admittedly, but much more seamlessly).

Although if this was a three-way poll between Fallout 3, Oblivion and Morrowind, the latter wins without breaking a sweat. :D

Definitely Fallout 3. It's very close but the reason is how the took the environments and put them to good use. I've seen environments in Oblivion before. They were amazing but Fallout's nuclear environment was unlike anything I'd ever seen before. (And I also loved the VATS. BOOM HEADSHOT!)

Fallout 3, I just couldn't get into any Elder Scrolls game ever. And I tried. Repeatedly in some cases, lol. Enjoyed the whole game of Fallout 3, almost as much as the previous titles. Was happy how they transitioned from turn-based grid to 'real-time' FPS/3PS.

I only went in favour of Fall out 3 because I dont own the other (YET). THough I enjoy Fallout 3 it has its limits you can only upgrade so far though that means you have to make some choices on what perks you take but then it makes you wonder why you contine to explore and collect stuff really....hmm must check out Oblivion.

I don't find that system absurd. It makes the game much more open and you don't have to worry about wandering into an area with extremely tough enemies and getting pwned.

I don't own Fallout 3 so I'll just vote for Oblivion.

Have you got the PC version of Fallout3? because I've seen cheats for extra perks and cheats for items whereas ps3 doesn't have any way of cheating.

I also found Fallout3 very empty afterwards because it's rather a depressing story with much fewer NPCs and deer/side quests, same thing.

i agree. having played fallout 1 and 2...bethesda's contribution seemed to be missing something. or maybe my expectations built from 1 and 2 kept me from appreciating the different perspective in 3.

I agree as well. Fallout 1 and 2 that I watched my brother play sometimes have very nice, deep stories but Bethesda made the game 3d and high definition FPS forgetting the story's quality.
