  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What exactly is faith? Better question here, is there a difference between faith and blind faith? Or is all faith supposed to be blind? I've started going to a pretty contemporary assembly of God church. I love going to the church, and I love the people, but I've started having so many questions. Especially about faith, which is obvious. The way my church feels is that you shouldn't put stock into blind faith. They don't believe that Jesus wants us to just blindly follow him and to not have any idea what we believe for ourselves. I agree with this to a certain point, but I do think that Jesus wants us to follow him no matter what. I know that its impossible to know everything, cause then that would put us on the same level as God. But without knowing everything, doesn't this call for a little faith. Possibly what would be considered blind faith. I just mainly want a clear cut difference between faith and blind faith if there is one. Thank you.

God bless,
Desiree :)

Hi Desiree,

I beleive like you. Have you ever tried doing a study on Faith in the Bible? The New testament has lots of info. Jesus talks about haveing faith as a mustard seed.

It says in the Bible that "All things work together for good to them that love God." It takes a whole lot of faith to believe that when bad things are happening all around. We have to have faith that God is going to make it all right and that there is a purpose in Him allowing bad things to happen that will work to His glory in the end.

The Bible says in Hebrews 11:1 that "Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen" That whole chapter is about faith.

The whole reason to have faith is because we can't know everything. We have to trust God and His Word. We have to believe it because He said it and not because we touched it with our hands- because we can't.

By faith we know that His Word is true. So if you go by the Bible you will be safe. It takes a lot of study and prayer to know what the Bible is saying. but God helps, day by day.

I guess I won't get too long winded.

What do you think?

God bless,
Sylvia

HI,
I have been figuring that question out for myself for about 6 months. It took me that long to realize that all I had to do was pray and ask God and Jesus to help me and show me the answers that I needed to know.

I was having trouble with, well, everything

But, when I prayed an honest to goodness prayer to help me with my faith, He answered it almost immediately.

It's good to look into the question of faith. I agree that people shouldn't go into faith blind. There is a lot of information out there and I think that when one goes into it blindly, they are missing out on the big picture.

Faith is learning, talking to, laughing with, trusting, and a yearning to know and love God.

Blind faith is following a certain belief simply because it's what you were taught growing up or it's what someone tells you is right.

In faith, you are not just following God, you are with Him.

I agree with above posters. Faith in the Biblical Jesus, therefore faith in the Word as your final authority.
I believe it's in Luke, maybe 8, that says that what you think you know will be taken away if your faith is not in The Word/Biblical JEsus, or that your faith or knowledge will be increased if you maintain faith in The Bible/biblical Jesus.
The Bible is not the final authority for many Christians. Thus, their foundation is not on solid ground, & their faith is based on something less.
Excellent thread. Excellent question. Many people don't even ask themselves that question ever.
Many Christians place their faith in what pleases them.
They offer different reasons, but it all boils down to whatever pleases them.
I think we can know more than we realize, through the conviction of the Holy Spirit, but of course, we can't ever know everything. The beginning point is having faith in the Word which was made flesh=Jesus, followed by faith in The word as truth, all of it.
