• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hi

I haven't a clue which is the best forum to post this in, sorry if it's the wrong one, there's one for Christians struggling with their faith but no obvious place for people wanting to become Christians who are struggling.

I have been an atheist for a long time, but every so often get a kind of mental nudge that I'm wrong and there's more to life. Anyway, this has currently led me to the point where I want to become a Christian, but am having difficulty with the belief.

Some days are harder than others. Today I woke up feeling very down and feel just like giving up on it all together. But I don't want to. It's difficult to put into words.

Just feel like I need some encouragement as I really don't want to give up on my searching. Does anyone else ever feel like this? If so how do you deal with it?

Under "Edification" there are two forums "For new Christians" and "For those who struggle".

You might want to look there.

I have to admit that your position is totally alien to me. Can you explain why you want to become a Christian?

TeeJay,

When you were an atheist, was that because you didn't have much knowledge of belief systems and religions etc. What I mean is were you an atheist by default?

There is a lot of information on the web, so you can search and evaluate the pros and cons of all types of faiths.

I was never really a christian as such, but I had beliefs in the supernatural and had looked at many different beliefs.

When I finally discovered "real" or informed atheism, it was great. I was free of all superstitious and non rational beliefs.

Maybe you need to be not so anxious about it, and just take your time to evaluate things more. If you choose christianity, then it's no problem, because then you will believe you have all of eternity to look forward to.

Hi TeeJay! Welcome to CF!

There is a place at the bottom of this screen that tells you how to become a Christian. It will answer a lot of your questions, but feel free to PM me or any of the other Christians and we'll answer whatever that link doesn't.

As for support, the Edification Forum here is a good one for that. Just start a thread and we'll do our best. People there tend to be really helpful.

TJ,

First thanks for your honesty I know it can be hard to say what you did.  Honestly there are times in my life when I have doubt.  I think that is part of being human.  Just do not give up.  You can Pm me anytime you need to.  However my best advice would be to find a good church in your area where you can get into a small group and learn and grow.  God created the local church partly to help us through times like you have described.  God created us as social beings and we are meant to fellowship with one another. I hope that helps and I am here to help anyway I can.

Oh yeah, I wake up that way sometimes. I am slow to get started, we do not alway jump out of bed ready to go. That is when I need to spend time in prayer and there are times we need to encourage ourselves in the Lord. The enemy does not give up on us. He continues to battle us from time to time to try and discourage us. But when we pray, God though the Holy Spirit will do all He can to encourage us. The thing to do is not to think about our inability, but to think about God's ability and what He is able to do in us and though us. He can put a lot of encouragement in us. He can fill us with His love, joy, peace, happyness and contentment.

Our pastor here talks about the spiritual garment we are to wear. At night we need to take care of our garment before we go to sleep. We need to put on that garment in the morning. We need to put on the garment of being steadfast in the Lord and consistant. Whatever we need from God, is available to us. We just need to draw upon Him, and get whatever we need. Whatever strength we need, whatever health or healing we need. In the morning, I will spend time in pray, to be equiped with what I need that day.

The best places to work, get people together first thing in the morning for a few min. to kinda have a pep ralley and to motivate them and get them in a positive attitude so they are more productive. If you do not get your people going in the morning, they may start to grumble and complain and not get as much work done. My wife, where she works, they do lots and lots of stuff to encourage the people and keep them in a positive mental state. They have little contests and little rewards for them all the time.

the thing that makes the christian life possible is God with us. hes not up in heavon, hes not somewhere else.
but he is here with you.

the holyspirit is what Jesus sent to the disciples after he left the earth.

you just have to ask him to come to you and help you. asking from pure humble needy heart is all it takes.

he will be with you at all times and comfort you if you seek him, and he will give you power to do all that you have to do.

you cannot get saved  depending on God, and do what he says by yourself. hes the one that saved you, hes the one that will make it possible for you finish your life in him.
you have to ask him to come and fill your body, and he will make such an awesome change, he will fill you with great joy and happiness, and fill you with great content. God is a God of comfort and happiness, there is no greater joy than fellowship with him.
there are times when i weep for nothing but joy because i have such pleasure and happiness in me, and no matter what the logical atheist may say to me, i have a great finding and it is too real and simply to good to let go of. though ive heard their arguments, and there is no explanation for how anything could have been come into existence unless there was a cause for it. and for all things to have had a cause there must have been a God who needed no cause, or else even we do not exist.

but im tired of those debates.
God is a God that hears your every whisper and if your quiet and pure of any wrong motive or evil toward him, you will here him speak to you.
you need the bible becuase you must become firm in your faith, when you cant hear Gods voice you live off the written things.
read the psalms.

and you need prayer, when you pray and talk to God he will come to you, and if you truely desire with all your heart to see him, when you come to him in prayer he will come to you and you will know that he is real and fill you gladness and Joy and give you a new life to live.
hes so real, youll talk to him, youll listen to him talk to you, youll laugh with him and cry with him, and when your weak hell hold you up. he is with us, and through christ we triumph over all things.

be encouraged.
a man with an experience, is never at the mercy of a man with an aregument. tommy tenny.
that is what i bring to you, my experience, not my aregument.
