  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The Christianity and Vegetarian thread reminded me of this urgent topic. A couple of months ago I found some distrubing news about how meat goes from the farm to the table. I never realized how cruel the factory farms are. I would go into detail but it is too horrific for younger members to read.

I always considered myself an animal lover at heart. After learning the truth I have become an animal activist at heart. Farm animals are as smart and loving as cats and dogs. But cows and pigs and chicken never see the sunlight! I was so shocked to find out thier living conditions and the abuses they endure! God would not want His creatures to be treated like this! I am so saddened by this problem. What can we do to ease the innocent animals pain?

Those who have seen the truth inside slaughter houses our first reaction is shock, hate, and disbelief. Nothing can be done about it. People rather play along with PETA, though nothing is comming from it. "If everyone stops eating meat we stop the slaughter houses" is pretty much what they say.

It's been going on along time, we can feel for the animals and what they go through, but not much can be done.

I have a "Vegetarian Sourcebook" which is an incredible reference. The author covers history, ethics, nutrition, religion, environmentalism, all.

He points out, for instance, that those who disdain meat because of the barbaric farm and butchering conditions but still eat eggs are probably participating in the most abusive system of all. (I, like you, won't get graphic.) He says if your only reason for avoiding animal products is ethical, keep your own egg layers, treat them well, and there goes your objection. We know a number of people who raise their own food of all kinds, believing God gave dominion but calls us to be humane stewards.
