Facebook wins Belgian privacy case over tracking logged-out users
Facebook sets cookies on visitors even if they are not logged in, even if they have no account. Then they touch base with that user's browser when it visits sites with the Facebook social plugin - and many sites have them. I'm not clear on whether the facebook "Like" button also phones the info home, but I suspect so.
Facebook says it has to do this to make sure visitors aren't malicious bots, and that they are not tracking.
It seems the only way to keep FB from trailing you as you surf the Web is to block FB cookies, a simple thing to do.
