And why is Face book more popular than the Church and what can we do about it.

No, facebook isn't a suicide risk.

As for it being more popular than church, maybe because church fails to provide similar levels of networking for young people today?

I don't think it's a suicide risk, and while I don't think it's more popular than Church in the sense of sheer number of people involved in it, there may be many reasons people arem ore active with FB. One may just be its convenience compared to going to a church activity.

Asking whether church is more popular than facebook is like asking whether cheese is more popular than television. One isn't an alternative to the other so any comparison makes little to no sense.

Also, there's no evidence to suggest that it has any influence on suicide rates. People who are seriously intent on actually ending their own lives will do it with or without encouragement from a specific social networking site.

Hello Sccye,
I completely agree with you on the point of suicide.
I am slight odds with you over the Cheese and Television bit.
I guess my real worry is our parish in wonderful rural England has 100 houses
And our Church regularly has attendances of 10, at least 6 of these come from other parishes.
These worshipers are mainly aged and as they depart this earth to a better place the people who move into their houses are by and large young professional people who seem to have no need of the Church
I know that at least 60 of the houses have at least one (and in some as many as 5) face book accounts. I wonder how many Bibles.
How can we The Church get into their lives?

its more popular than church because its more convenient than church, and the u.s now is an institution of instant gratification, laziness and complete spiritual weakness
