  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What is your take on this chapter

This prophecy presents a view of a future temple.
I don't believe it applies to any historical fulfillment but rather is a vision during the 1,000 year reign or the eternal state beyond it-the New Jerusalem.
There are many parallels between the past and the future temple but no mention of a High Priest- because Jesus Christ alone has assumed that role.
The return of God's glory is the main feature and that could only be accomplished after Israel has been restored and cleansed. Holiness is stressed.
It appears regulations of priests and circumcision will still be in place both physical and spiritual.
I think this concludes the development of God's redemptive plan in the end times.
Is this a preview of Revelation 21?

What is your take on this chapter

This chapter describes the Millenial Temple in Jerusalem (which could somehow continue into the New Heavens and the New Earth, although that is not clearly revealed).

We need to take this chapter in the context of Ezekiel chapters 34-48, which describe the redeemed and restored kingdom of Israel under Christ. All the OT covenants require that Israel be established eternally on the land between the Nile and the Euphrates, that there be a Temple in Jerusalem, that God dwell in the midst of her, and there be perfect peace and righteousness.

What is puzzling to Christians is how to reconcile the perfect sacrifice of the Lamb of God (the Lord Jesus Christ) with what we see here (a resumption of animal sacrifices). God has seen fit to hold back that revelation from us, but God will reconcile all things perfectly.

It is perplexing to understand that the concept of a sacrificial system could be reinstituted in the future.
We know that where sins have been forgiven, there is no longer any sacrifice for sin. The reality is no other sacrifice could ever be offered since Christ's sacrifice of Himself was the ultimate gift once and for all.
Israel's ritual system was strictly symbolic imposed until the time of reformation.
Hebrews 9 and 10 tell us the OT system was only a reminder of sins every year.
there is nothing that says that these pictorial sacrifices and festivals can no longer be observed as reminders and lessons of what Christ did for us.
it could be that the sacrifices during the millennial system described by Ezekiel are done only in remembrance for those believers in worship and unbelievers born during the millennial period.
the same applies to God's Holy day festivals which will be restored and everyone will be made to observe them.
I believe the sacrifices in the millennial system of Ezekiel appear to be only memorials of Christ's finished work.

I believe the sacrifices in the millennial system of Ezekiel appear to be only memorials of Christ's finished work.

That is a fair and scriptural assumption. While it is not revealed per se in Ezekiel, we know from the NT that there can be no more genuine sacrifice for sin. Christ accomplished everything that was necessary.
And we know that the New Covenant was originally promised to Israel and must therefore become operative for Israel.

There will also be some kind of connection or direct communication between the Jerusalem that comes down from Heaven and the Jerusalem redeemed and restored on earth, with God in the midst of her.

The important thing for Christians today is to not simply dismiss the OT prophecies pertaining to Israel, and assume that the Church has replaced Israel simply because it is called "the Israel of God".
