  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

@PloverWing

Apparently it was a specific UMC parish that arranged the choreography and apparently the tableux looked unmistakably like the last supper so I can only assume or hope that you didn’t see it @PloverWing

@AlexB23 did what you see look anything like a fashion show? Like, is there any remote possibility it could have been confused as such? I asked my relative and she said there was no such possibility.
No, it’s clear that they intended to mock the last supper.

Looks like the organizers have issued an apology:

That said, the apology rings hollow because they clearly meant to mock the Last Supper and they still deny that that was even what was being portrayed.

As for the UMC, they don't seem to have been involved in this, although they certainly aren't beyond criticism when it comes to their views on the morality of "drag queens" and general sexual ethics.

My relative recalls that there was a version of the article which referenced the organizer of the event, who has the same name as a Methodist minister in the US who she was personally aware of, and in her shock over the incident apparently she thought the article was saying that minister had advised the performance group on the Last Supper and had contributed to it. Hence the confusion.

That being said I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the more liberal UMC clergy endorse or defend this.

Well they said the put trust in their artistic director. Well that's their big mistake right there! In this day and age you should know what that can mean with an extreme liberal individual. Future Olympic host cities better take notice. Do you want to have your Games to be well thought of from start to finish? YES nor NO. If you don't care fine...have your big party and have half the people around the world watching it. As for me I think I'll just stay watching national sports events this year.
