There are only a few premises of evolutionary theory - inherited characteristics, varied traits in a populations of individuals, differential reproductive success.
From this, it's fairly easy to predict what will happen. A population will, over time, become more adapted depending on what selection pressures are put in place.
Creationists may even accept small changes ('micro evolution' as they call it).
But a stumbling block for creationists seems to appear when you ask them to extrapolate from this known information, to what would happen if the process continued to run for millions of years. To me, it's easy enough to see. To a creationist, suddenly there are 'barriers'.
Where does the problem come from? What is this barrier preventing a population ending up looking and behaving completely different from its direct, if ancient, ancestors?
If creationists can appreciate that we've observed small changes, and that if we extrapolate from our known data, we'll predict large changes, and not only that but we've found fossil evidence of large changes in populations over time, why do creationists not accept the extrapolation is likely to be true?
