Everyone advocates what he believes to be true. This must inevitably mean that everyone believes that other teachers are false. The question then must be how to determine which of the many "true" teachers is really true. Surely, we cannot depend on the self-declarations of those who would benefit from such conclusions.

We depend upon the bible. If what the person says is in harmony with the bible, then what they say is true, otherwise, false.

Pretty simple if you ask me :)

And, I've said it before, but thank you Sassy :D
That is not sufficient because the other persons also claim to be depending on the Bible. In the end you are asking them to take your word above theirs. I don't know how far you will go on that tank of gas.

Do you lay awake at night, thinking up these little disagreements? In all sincerity I ask this question...

I'm not asking ANYONE to take MY word....it is the word of God that ALL must understand and "take". If you know His word, then you will KNOW the false teachers. It's a no-brainer as far as I am concerned.

This constant dickering back and forth that some are doing in here, just may be the engine's "misfiring" you were speaking of under another thread...ever think about that?

Maybe if you took a good course in church history you would not be so certain of your position. When truth rides one one's interpretation of an ancient text caution is required. If we have different views of the same thing and we both claim to have biblical support how can we know who is telling the truth? I know you would like to believe that you are absolutely correct in every biblical doctrine and everyone else is absolutely incorrect, but that posture cannot be supported by the facts.

I think I will pass on your advice of taking a "course" good or otherwise in the church history you speak of.

I simply don't know what to tell you. Grumble Grumble, it's all I hear...and it's LONG past old.

It could be you have the grumble soundtrack playing so it is drowning out all the wonderful admonitions we have so carefully labored to post in these forums.

So the question is this? Whose duty is it to expose false teachers or prophets? Or is that something that we should even concern ourselves with? This question is prompted by something I saw on the other forum, which seems to be generating some discussion.....

Is that something we are even dealing with? I mean the idea of prophets false or otherwise, and exposing false truths.....

your thoughts??

Well this is interesting..

For argument's sake, what if the part of the Bible you are using to say they are wrong, is wrong?
Wrong in the sense say looking at the text in Deut which tells parents to take their disobedient child to be stoned to death in order to keep evil from Israel.
If you can't trust the Standard then you have no standard by which to judge a true or false prophet.
