  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

First off, let me ask, do you believe in life on other worlds?
I know that the Bible doesn't exactly depict weather there is or isn't.
If so, what do you believe about it? Do you believe they will look exactly like humans?

Also, If you were given the chance to colonize other worlds in the future, to spread our species around so that if a meteor hits Earth, not all humans are lost, would you be part of the colony?
Again, I am asking for what the Christlike thing to do is. I know this isn't mentioned in the Bible as well, but from what you know and from the experiences you have had, what do you believe?

Thanks.

Hi, Dogear! Welcome to CF!
First off, let me ask, do you believe in life on other worlds?
Yes -- angelic life.
I know that the Bible doesn't exactly depict weather there is or isn't.
No, but I think we can use the Bible to create a good enucleation for this dilemma.
If so, what do you believe about it?
I believe God created the other worlds as sorts of R&R for the angels; little microparadises or getaways for them, so to speak.
Do you believe they will look exactly like humans?
Yes.
Also, If you were given the chance to colonize other worlds in the future, to spread our species around so that if a meteor hits Earth, not all humans are lost, would you be part of the colony?
That won't happen, as God has future plans for this earth, including living on it in Person for a thousand years.

But to answer your question from your perspective: no, I would not go.
Again, I am asking for what the Christlike thing to do is. I know this isn't mentioned in the Bible as well, but from what you know and from the experiences you have had, what do you believe?
Again, a hearty welcome to CF!

And I can assure you, you're in the right place for answers.

These guys here are really, really good; and know their stuff!

You may not necessarily agree with them, but you'll definitely learn from them.

Greetings Dogear, as well.

I swear, I'm not trying to start something.

I've never heard this in anything.

What did you base this off of?

There maybe life on other worlds but they would be at least 5 light years away. You would not be able to travel that distance with anything I have ever seen attributed to aliens from other planets.

Science does not agree. Some people believe that the elements remain consistant anywhere in the universe and life will end up pretty much the same. Other people think you would need a sun the size of our sun, a planet the size of our planet the same distance from the sun and all of that. The chance of that happening is not very good at all.

If you were given the chance to colonize other worlds in the future
You can not do that with Physics. You would have to use Quantum Physics. There is already a theory of parallel universes. Even religion suggests we go to some sort of Heaven or Paradise when we leave this life.

I have thought about people traveling through the universe though something like an optical fiber. In the E = MC2 formula we would have to be on the energy side of the equation to travel that way.

I think he's referring to the planets in our own solar system as well as throughout the universe.

If these planets had indigenous life on them -- (and I don't think they do) -- then they would be animals; as God created us in His image and likeness, and taking the Anthropic Principle into consideration, these animals could not exist as humans.

There is no atmosphere. Maybe if they had a atmosphere to equalize the temps. To keep us in our comfort zone.
We would have to live in man-made biospheres, I suppose.

I just don't see it happening though.

I think that it would be rational to assume that life is not a phenomenon exclusive to this planet.

Do you believe they will look exactly like humans?

It would be virtually impossible in my opinion. A creature that looks exactly like us would have to have the same evolutionary history as us, which is virtually impossible. They would probably be made up of nucleic acids, proteins, and lipids like us, but I'm sure it would defy our greatest imaginations. We might even look at it and not suspect it was even alive at first glance.

Also, If you were given the chance to colonize other worlds in the future, to spread our species around so that if a meteor hits Earth, not all humans are lost, would you be part of the colony?

Other worlds are so far away, that the journey would be many lifetimes. I don't know if I'd go. It would be very interesting though!

Why not? It seems entirely possible to me.

You can not do that with Physics. You would have to use Quantum Physics.

We can too colonize other solar systems with physics. We have the technology today to send a probe/ship to alpha centauri, only taking 60 years using Nuclear Pulse Propulsion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Orion_(nuclear_propulsion). It also provides a good use for our nuclear weapons. The hard part would be constructing and launching such a vehicle, but it is technologically possible today.

There is already a theory of parallel universes. Even religion suggests we go to some sort of Heaven or Paradise when we leave this life.

Religion is the ONLY thing that says that.

I have thought about people traveling through the universe though something like an optical fiber. In the E = MC2 formula we would have to be on the energy side of the equation to travel that way.
Converting mass to energy in the first place would take massive amounts of energy in and of itself. Additionally, you would need reconstruction plans on the other side. An optical cable would not work (a 5-light-year-long optical cable? Please.) On top of all that, when you are broken down and teleported, you die. What gets reassembled on the other side is not "you." It is a conscious being exactly like you, that thinks it's you, and is you. The current consciousness you are experiencing does not carry over. It's as if a clone of you is created on the other side after you are vaporized. You can thank Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle for this.

First off, let me ask, do you believe in life on other worlds?

Almost definitely.
If so, what do you believe about it? Do you believe they will look exactly like humans?

Nope. Life evolved on a different planet with completely different conditions would not come anywhere near anything human-like (or octopus-like or deer-like, etc)

However, based on things that have evolved multiple times on our planet, we can at least speculate that there will be aliens with legs, aliens with eyes, and aliens with wings.

Also, If you were given the chance to colonize other worlds in the future, to spread our species around so that if a meteor hits Earth, not all humans are lost, would you be part of the colony?
It's the only way to guarantee the survival of the Homo sapiens for as long as possible.

And yes, I would. I'm looking at real estate on Mars currently. It'll be a beachfront property once the terraforming gets going.

Is that a YES or a DON'T KNOW?

Very few statements are black and white. I would say "probably yes, based on what we know about life, astronomy, geology, and other scientific disciplines, but I don't know for sure".
