  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm sad to say that since we cannot rescue all the dying pets, we'll have to save the ones we can and those who were created or placed in the center for selfish reasons will have to be left. It is not a good thing, but we're not helping the rescue cause to sacrifice so many blessings that we could save many pets with to only save one or two. Does anyone else have other solutions? :prayer:

I think it borders on obscene for someone to put pets up at such horrendous prices trying to prey on the rescue efforts. I really do not know how we can make a statement about this. It saddens me to think that people would be so mean. :(
I think the ignore policy for pets put up for adoption for more than 700 is the best approach yet.

Why can't there be a limit as to how much a pet is adopted for? If I were to go to my local "real" animal shelter a dog is adopted for $60. What if there was a flat fee for all adoptions? Like 500 blessings? I know that would be loosing money but then there wouldn't be the extortion that is going on. I also agree that a person should have so many posts to own a pet as well. Or be a site supporter if they wanted one sooner.

It is so annoying! You don't buy a pet then beg people for blessings!

There should be a minimum post that you must achieve before buying a pet. GRRR.

:) It is a good suggestion, however we need to remember that you can become a site supporter the moment you sign up (with only 1 or 0 post) and if a member deposits into the bank all the blessings he or she gets as a site supporter ...

what I am trying to say is: a minimum post limit might effect site supporters or those new members with only a few posts but who received blessings and put them into the bank. They could not become pet owners.

Reporting is not something you might like to do, but begging for blessings is against the rule and you could report those members who beg for blessings.

It seems that most of you seem to agree that there should be a maximum price for all pets that are up to adoption.

This is what I would suggest:

Those of you who think that way and agree, should discuss the maximum price (how much), and then one of you could go to "Suggest New Feature" forum and request Erwin to set the limit (no pet can be put up for adoption higher than ... blessings). And whoever does make this suggestion in "Suggest New Feature" should post a link in this thread so that the others who agree and think the same, can post and say "I agree" ... or make a poll here and post a thread to the poll.

Maxium price has already been asked and denied... sorry dont have link for it... Has been working ok with not adopting the pet if over certain amount..... until the two at adoption center now for 5000 and 10,000.... they will get the message that we are not going to just give them that much....

I, too, am against a maximum price. If a few people create pets to get blessings and end up losing the 700 blessings it cost them to create them, then people will get the message. I've looked in the adoption center several times lately, and the overall price of pets to be adopted has declined, with the couple of notable exceptions already discussed here.

Realistically, we can't save every virtual pet. Some people are going to set the prices on their pets artificially high as a form of emotional blackmail, knowing that we do want to save them. We can help the person who honestly wants to get his pet adopted out because he's leaving, he can't afford the blessings, he doesn't want to be a pet owner any more, or for other legitimate reasons.

That's what we are here for, not to pander to the greediness of a few opportunists. If we stick to a limit on what we will pay for pets, the abusers will get the message. It's already happening.
