  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Computers are another good one. It can be cheaper if you build your own but now they have mod kits so you can trick your system out like a sports car. And that's just the case, not the important parts! The best processors cost over $900 a pop, then there's the $500 gamer graphics cards. But what can really drive up the cost is if you're into custom cooling. I was at CompUSA asking about water cooling and the salesman told me about a friend of his who uses liquid nitrogen to cool his system down. $20,000.
I know someone who cools his system with distilled water. It's consistently cooler inside his case than whatever room temperature is where the system is.

The sides are see through and lit with blue lights so it's really cool when it's lit up. I wouldn't put that kind of money into my computer, personally, but this is a guy who actually made a modification to his computer at one point using the plastic body of a bic pen.

My hobby is snowboarding. $350 board, $150 bindings, $250 boots, $230 coat, $150 pants, $20 goggles (they suck to... =/), $30 gloves (which have worked wonders for like 5 years but they're thrashed now so I need knew ones =/), $45 lift ticket per day, $20 gas to get to the mountain.

Computers are also a hobby I'm turing into a career so I'm not counting it :) Otherwise... wow... no wonder I'm broke.

Tell me about it because I have a boring "hobby" in going to bookstores and the library plus playing on the internet. But also I eat out when I am at the library.

Heh, I bought some paintball gear a few weeks ago.
Tippman custom 98- $220
Tippman BT-16 barrel- $140
Collapsible Carstock-$95
Bt-16 Ajustable Sightrail- $56
C02 tank with outfit-$175
Mask, Gloves, neckgaurd 16 oz. Tank- $200
Diablo Heat Paintball- $55 (which is a decent price)

So what I've got is a paintball gun conversion which looks like a M-16, 2000 paintballs that we go entirely through in a couple of games, a mask that fogs and a neck protector that offers little protection. heh

I'm also going skydiving in a few weeks with a friend so its going to be $170 for a six hour ground school and two 3000 foot jumps, after thats its going to be $60 a jump for non member. I'll try to get enough to go advanced for $18 bucks a jump...yeha...that would be nice.

Try living several hundred miles from the mountains.

One snowboard trip this jan, i spent at least 1000 (not counting the med bills from a broken wrist), that was with three guys splitting fuel (at $1.35/gal avg) and hotel costs.

All the costs you listed are one-timers, at least for few years.

by the way i had to spend 40 to get decent goggles...you can't scrimp on those, otherwise you might as well close your eyes and ride down

Yeah those are just another $300-400 on top of your regular system after you've added the water cooler, cooling blocks, lights, and windowed case. Show me a pic of the bic case if you can get one, I'm curious.

Yeah, me too. I never actually got to see it- it was in a system that he had a long time ago. But I thought he had to be pretty well out of his mind for doing it. I guess he was using it as a conductor of some sort? I could be wrong on that. I just know that a bic pen was involved.

I'm at about a grand for my setup. It's aBlack Magic Autococker w/Nitro, Full Freak Barrel and EVO 2 Hopper.

I've spent enough to become a dealer (7 Tippmann "loaners" and all the goodies), so I get my stuff at cost now. But still, even my new mask was $65 (V Force Profiler), and it still costs about $50 each time I go.

Other than that, my mountain bike sucked about $3k out of me, and I don't think investing counts, since I retain the assets.

Yeah I think I get what he was doing. Probably a small heat duct for the CPU.

Autocockers are great, but a little pricey for a beginner like me. Maybe someday when I get more involved in PB I'll get some tournament legal gear and enter.

It's not a hobby but more of a dream....I want to visit every NHL arena in the US and Canada. That's not cheap by any stretch....game tickets, hotel, flight and/or rental car, meals, any souveniers I may want, film for camera (yes, I'm still in the dark ages and use a camera that takes film! haha)

So far I've been to four arenas. :)

I hate gyms because you have no privacy and people are staring at you. Despite liking people, I prefer to workout at the privacy of my loft. Also I just go to bookstores and libraries and they don't cost you unless you get al library where I go downtown.

Thats a great price! Gyms around here are $60 to $100 a month!

where do you live? Manitoba, if I remember correctly?

I'm with Club Fit (edmonton only). It's $24/month if you sign a two year contract. A one year contract is $29/month. That includes everything--all the cardio and weight equipment, including a women's only section, plus all the group classes (spin, pilates, hip hop, cardio kickboxing, step, precision weights, etc). AND the staff are awesome and give me all the help I need. PLUS my membership is good at any of the locations in the city (so if I want a class that my location doesn't offer, I can go to a different location) AND it also gets me in at sister gyms across north america--so when I'm in Calgary I go to Spa Lady, etc. It's a pretty sweet deal for only $24! The only thing we don't have is a swimming pool....

There are more expensive gyms around... World Health Club is $45/month. But they don't really offer anything that Club Fit doesn't.

I don't find that people stare .... but if they were staring I guess I wouldn't notice, since I'm focused on doing my own thing... and I think most everyone else is the same way!

My gym,,Gold's, has a women only section of the gym. Its in a different room then the rest of the gym and is really private. Plus there are plenty of 100% women only gyms out there for ladies that feel the same way as you.

I've GOT to get a membership to one of those. LOL
