To say I believe it would be saying I don't believe God and His Word when His fingerprints are all around me if I would just open my eyes and humble myself.
Fair enough. But you deciding not to accept the reality that common descent is a useful, applied science doesn't change the fact that it's a useful, applied science. So don't be surprised that that part of evolutionary theory doesn't go away.

The preception of entrenchment, again, is due to the fact that the overwelming objection to evolution is purely on religious grounds. The scientific community is not going to abandon a 150 year old scientific theory, particularly one that is being applied in real world biological application simply because of religious objections to it.
In the movie religious objections didn't play a role.

Trust me, I don't expect common descent to go away, if anything I expect it to grow in popularity.

To be fair, I have yet to see it so I can't comment. However, my point was about objections to evolution at large.

Trust me, I don't expect common descent to go away, if anything I expect it to grow in popularity.

But it's not about popularity. It's about applied, useful science. Which really, at the end of the day, is about economics.

After all, that's why evolution is taught in the first place: to train knowledge workers for 21st century biological research, which has huge ramifications in industries like argiculture and medicine. And in turn, keep America (or whatever nation) competitive in those industries by attracting, fostering and equipping companies with the workers they need to prosper.

So really, it doesn't matter if Joe Public disbelieves in evolution. It's the scientists doing the actual work who matter.
