Anything that damages a society must go no matter what it is,

Nope. Unlike you we can look and see further than the event. IF we knee jerk ended free speech we would create another problem where only the people who decide free speech must go are the only ones to have freedom. Similar to how the UK is littered with years of history where evil kings took advantage of the rest of the population.

46 percent of gun owners said they bought the gun for protection, protection from whom? other Americans?

Good night poor soul! Get an education. the number one reason the right to bare arms is in the constitution is that citizens would have the power to throw off oppression of militia. Guess who they had primarily in mind based on their recent history? a certain country called Britain! The culture of owning guns in the US was not built by outbreaks in crime of citizens but from protection against the likes of your own country. Turns out guns were kind of handy in kicking you out.

Apparently he still is LOL!

Hovind is a con artist and a fraud, operating under the banner of "Christianity". You should be ashamed of yourselves for even associating with, let alone supporting this clown.

You're responding to the sports-ball mentality. To many people, the question of evolution isn't a matter of what's real or unreal. The question of evolution is a game, and anyone who can stick it to evolution is "playing for our team." Again, it doesn't matter whether Hovind is a fraud, or even whether someone agrees or disagrees with him. He's sticking it to evolution. Truth is not especially important. Team is.

As far as the average creationist thinks you're right but as far as Kent Hovind is concerned he's not on anyone's team he's playing his game for himself.

How many Americans would you say are religious? half the population? is religion a thriving business for quite a lot of people?
is there a lot of money to be made from religion?

If I were to estimate, I would say that 99% of people who are paid by Christian churches make a modest income that isn't taking advantage of anyone. I don't think religion is different from any other area of business. The vast majority are good, honest people with a tiny percentage who are dishonest.

does Kent Hovind tell lies to religious people in order to make money,
do you think he is in it for the money?

Although I am not a professional, I think Kent Hovind has some serious mental issues. I don't know if he understands what lies are or if he understands why lies are bad.

As you say, he's definitely playing for himself.

In Boston we root for anybody who's playing against the Yankees (New York's baseball team for non-Americans out there). It doesn't matter that they aren't the Red Sox (Boston's team). We just hate the Yankees.

But that's a game that, at the end of the day, means nothing. For many people, the question of truth is like this, and so they'll cheer on a fraud as long as he's sticking it to something they don't like.

What is your natural language? You must have skipped English class. And people.

And again with the semantics.

You want to shift the argument away from the fact that professional creationists peddle lies to other topics, such as who gets to decide what is good and bad. That is what a semantic argument is.

I don't think Jan means the people working for religion, I think she means the people who are using religion to make money for themselves, the TV evangelists, Kent Hovind, Ken Ham and the banana man, they are all fabulously rich so have no intension of trying to get through the eye of that needle.

I took it to mean someone like the pastor at a local church. That pastor is "making money off of religion" in the form of a salary paid by tithes from church members. However, I don't think anyone is being taken advantage of in that situation.

What is interesting is what happens at higher levels of administrative hierarchy in larger churches. Take the Roman Catholic Church. They have halls gilded in gold and hundreds of billions of dollars sitting in the bank. All the while, catholics in the 3rd world are starving and dying from treatable conditions. That doesn't make sense.

I think it makes perfect sense, apparently the lord helps those who help themselves and the Catholic church has already helped themselves to most of what's on offer.
The Catholic church tells everyone they are in the business of saving souls not lives, if you are dying of starvation and you are a good Catholic then the Catholic church has done a good job as far they are concerned.

Do you know any instances where this was the case?

Which makes me wonder why there is not a movement in mainstream Christianity to openly speak out about the methods applied in creation science.
That's like wanting to ban guns by banning the bullets.

I have a better idea.

Just say creation science is a contradiction in terms.

I think Christianity would benefit from speaking out, because it does involve virtually all denominations.
