With that in mind, I find your second link (response to Hovind) incredibly beguiling. One of the authors is Carl Wieland. Weiland has a published article on the "Lost Squadron", supposedly disproving ice core chronology, as bad as anything that Hovind has ever presented.

No, they weren't. The charges he was sentenced for were never dismissed.
With that post by Dr. Shanlian nothing should be too confusing for you.
Kent is a very intelligent, wise, upstanding guy that used the revenue laws of the states to help him stretch his dollars to support God's work.
I thought the charges were dismissed. Were they not?
The way I see it is that there is a lot of very wealthy people that pay good accountants to do exactly what Kent was doing, and worse. They pay these accountants to find loop holes and then litigate with the IRS anytime they are flagged. Many are doing illegal things but it would cost the close to bankrupt US government too much to go after them. It's a cost versus return thing......
This procedure, that Kent used, is not new. It is carried out by thousands of big businesses. Loop holes are huge cash cows. Even if this is a loop hole or just a guppy in a big pond that the IRS could go after.
So, look past your "hate" for the guy. He is a creationist, and a good one. I know discrediting him would be a great feather in you cap but...... let it go. With that post by Dr. Shanlian nothing should be too confusing for you.
Kent is a very intelligent, wise, upstanding guy that used the revenue laws of the states to help him stretch his dollars to support God's work. Then, their suit against him lead to hundreds more being lead to Christ and put Kent and his ministry in the news where curious people can now find the truth that they are looking for.
I guess the Pensacola newspaper is lying? Just Say'n.....
"Pensacola evangelist Kent Hovind was acquitted of a March contempt conviction, as well as three counts of mail fraud and associated conspiracy charges dismissed."
Here is the link to the full article.....

They were dismissed in May 2015, after he served the 10 years
I guess the Pensacola newspaper is lying? Just Say'n.....
"Pensacola evangelist Kent Hovind was acquitted of a March contempt conviction, . . .
Unlike some in L'Aquila. He was convicted on numerous charges and that is why he spent 10 years in prison.
Did you read the article? Heck, did you read your own quote?I guess the Pensacola newspaper is lying? Just Say'n.....

Kudos!Meh I too thank Dr Shanlian for his post and insight but I really cant agree with the wise part. Lets say he even had legitimate tax arguments - Still - Jesus laid down the principle that a servant of God should not spend his time hassling over taxes. When the subject came up he made commentary on it and then basically said - anyway Just pay the Bill - render unto Caesar what is Caeser's.
all these years lost and having the word "convicted" associated with his name just wasn't very smart to me.
Kind of like the creation science literature when it lists references from the mainstream scientific literature. It doesn't support their claimed position, in fact, just the opposite.Doesn't appear so.
(bold emphasis)We can not knock Kent, he saw a fool proof way to make money and he went for it and selling lies is not only allowed in the US it's positively encouraged, if you see a mug and take everything he has you get a 'well done' a pat on the back and a high five.

He was convicted on certain charges and that conviction still stands today.
I don't hate the guy, he is just a guy who broke the law, tried to cover things up and got nailed for it.
He lead over 700 souls to Christ.
What will we be recognised by? Our fruit? Wow what a harvest for Christ! 700 + souls? Praise God
A) I didn't say he had done nothing good
B) the idea that number count of souls makes everything we do right is ridiculous and unbiblical
C) the fact that essentially an argument over keeping Mammon resulted in his conviction which its safe to say has turned off over 700 souls has to be considered in the fruit column as well.
As an aside you are on pretty dangerous grounds with that argument Jack. I am no Hovind hater (just not really a supporter either), from what i have read he is my brother in Christ and seems like a good brother as well, but the number of souls someone or ministry brings in has been used by many a tele-evangelist supporter and even doctrinal heretic in the defense of the indefensible.
Still let me be clear. Do I think the fact he was a Creationist and in the TV evangelist kind of category resulted in a ten year sentence? I tend to. I have seen far less get probation and a fine. Are people blowing it up to make it seem like he was convicted in connection to being a creationist. You bet. Even this thread was started for no good reason of interest in the case besides an atheist gloating about a creationist. Was he proven to be a dishonest disreputable character? From what I have read I think not. He holds some taxation ideas that he is not alone on.
But Hovind blameless? Nope. I can't say that. Like i said Jesus' own example makes it clear. Issues of Mammon are not worth it. convicted while winning souls? Sure. Convicted in the process of trying to not pay mammon to the government? absolutely not.
What I am saying is that this man is being wrongfully dragged through the courts of the US by the IRS and results are that he has been brought to the limelight and saved many souls.
His message, regarding creation, has not been tarnished. His financial dealings has been the target. His integrity, IMO is sound. There are many "honest" businesses in the US that function under the same laws as he does but they will never be touched as they have too much $$$ backing them.
I firmly believe that the government tried to discredit him due to the work he is doing for God and, as a result, he is actually doing more work for God.
I also believe that if you were to meet him and talk with him on his principals of creation and financial workings, you would find him a fine upstanding man.
