• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Evolutionists, please respond.

It seemed that chilehd made a reference to Hovind, the comment about a mail order degree, and that AVET was using his old "take a hike" statement he makes whenever he knows that he is wrong.

I saw the gross error that Ross made in the minute or so of video that AVET wanted us to watch and realized at that point anything he had to say would be simply GIGO.
^_^ ... am I good or what!?

Um ... we're not talking about Mr. Hovind, are we?

We're talking about Doctor Hugh Ross, aren't we?

But ... hey ... it doesn't matter, does it? they're both dishonest, aren't they?

After all, it's not what we say that counts -- it's what we are, isn't it? ;)

I realized my mistake already. And except for your last line you had this one right.

Who knows, we might have AVET accepting evolution some day.

I know what I am -- and I don't have any qualms about putting it in my profile, either.

You make a big thing of saying that you think there is some issue about what you are, but I don't actually know what it is that you imagine we think you are that is more important than what you have to say.

Speaking just for myself, if I ever think of you as anything it is as a psychological study. But any interesting aspects of that are only revealed by what you have to say, so it hardly fits your claim about what we think you are being more important than what you say. As for what is in your profile, I'm afraid it doesn't say much that I find very interesting. That you think it does is more interesting to me than what is in it.

So it doesn't matter what my profile says, does it?

It's what wrote it ... is that what you're saying?

I don't find what you have written in your profile very interesting, but that's not to say you couldn't write a profile that I would find interesting.

It's what wrote it ... is that what you're saying?

I don't think of you as a 'what' but as a human being. Does that still fit your narrative in which "it's not what we say but what we are" is a meaningful question?

By 'what' ... I meant 'Christian.'

By 'what' ... I meant 'Christian.'

So your original question was:

"It's not what we Christians say that counts, it's the fact that we're Christians, isn't it?"

To which the answer is no, you'll be disappointed to learn.

Indeed -- you can call yourself whatever you wish, but it's your actions that determine what you truly are.

Then this:
He's obviously an intelligent man, but he says a bunch of really, really stupid things. Maybe he got his degree from some mail-order place?
... can take a hike.

Obviously learning doesn't prevent ridicule, does it?

So the point you just made, TLK, means nothing to me.

Truth hurts too much, AV? Showing himself to be an ignorant buffoon is no longer an "action" in your world?

Your actions betray you as well, AV.

If evolution was true then how do you explain the existence of creationists? I thought evolution means everyone should be getting smarter not dumber!

You can't explain that!

Actually, evolution doesn't necessarily imply that a species will get "smarter;" would only be true if increased intelligence is beneficial in terms of natural selection.

As long as there is not a disadvantage that would select against their continued existence.

Creationism can continue to exist because there are enough scientists who, using evolutionary theories in biology, develop the life saving technologies that will work even if the user decides to dislike this part of science!

Hehe I know I was just being silly. Seriously though, it seems dumb people are actually reproducing faster so maybe we are all actually getting dumber... unless intelligence isn't as genetic as I fear it is.

There could be some truth to that. Because we have social safety nets (which I'm not arguing against), lack of intelligence may no longer play a role in determining who can and cannot successfully reproduce.
