I disagree, by taking genesis as literal, you make God out to be a liar. God created the earth, the earth exhibits greater age than the literal interpretation of genesis.By tossing out the 'facts' of Genesis one can dispose of the 'truths' as well, and the devil wins another one. To learn what God intends for us to learn we should study the word as it is written, as if it were literally true, even if we don't accept it as 'fact'. Otherwise we cannot learn the great truths of God.
