Evolution Poll

How do you feel about evolution?

  • I don\'t really care if evolution is true.

  • I have seen enough data to convince me that evolution is true.

  • I have seen enough data to convince me that evolution is false.

  • The theory of evolution is a Satanic idea that must be opposed at all costs!

Evolution does not disprove the Bible, but supports it in some ways:

1.  The story of Noah's ark.  Simple calculations find it impossible all existing species could have crammed into that small of a space.  Only evolution could account for the varied species we observe today, originating from ancestors carried on the ark given the dimensions described within the story.

2.  The different races of man.  If mankind descended from a single couple, only evolution could explain the existance of different races.

To sum it up:  The Bible doesn't disprove Evolutionary Science, Evolutionary Science doesn't disprove the Bible.

And why would anyone state that the Bible can't be believed along with any other science such as Astronomy, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics...etc..etc...

Amazing that some still view science a threat to theological beliefs.  Didn't the early church make the same mistake with Galileo?  Excommunicating him for his scientific discoveries?

Regards,

Smilin

Galileo was never excomunicated, and his troubles with the Inquisition was about a disciplinary matter, not his science.

To be exact:

In 1614, Father Tommaso Caccini denounced the opinions of Galileo on the motion of the Earth from the pulpit of Santa Maria Novella, judging them to be erroneous. Galileo therefore went to Rome, where he defended himself against charges that had been made against him but, in 1616, he was admonished by Cardinal Bellarmino and told that he could not defend&nbsp;astronomy because it went against the doctrine of the Church. In 1622 he wrote the <I>Saggiatore</I> (<I>The Assayer</I>) which was approved and published in 1623. In 1630 he returned to Rome to obtain the right to publish his <I>Dialogue on the two chief world systems</I> which was eventually published in Florence in 1632. In October of 1632 he was summoned by the Holy Office to Rome. The tribunal passed a sentence condemning him and compelled Galileo to solemnly abjure his theory. He was sent to exile in Siena and finally, in December of 1633, he was allowed to retire to his villa in Arcetri, the Gioiello.

His troubles with the Church were in fact due to his science.

Like Seeb's said, it was not entirely his science...

He had an abrasive attitude and often pariodied religious leaders around him in his works and letters.

So add someone making fun of church leaders and toting around a theory that was slightly strange at the time to some and you get an explosive situation.

Both sides are guilty of bad judgment and actions.

What your post leaves out is that Galileo's science clashed with the Church's science.&nbsp; The underlying problem was twofold:

1) The Catholic Church incorporated a scientific theory -- Ptolemaic astronomy -- as part of its theology.

2)&nbsp;The data didn't support Galileo's heliocentrism any better than geocentrism. What is lost at this distance is that Galileo was also using circular orbits and the observations didn't match circular&nbsp;orbits. Galileo argued a lot from&nbsp;analogy -- looking at the moons of Jupiter.&nbsp; However, analogical arguments in science are very weak.&nbsp;&nbsp;As an example, notice that most of Intelligent Design is an analogical argument.&nbsp;&nbsp;The analogy is rejected by people who don't even know the actual data refuting ID.&nbsp; They simply won't accept the analogy.&nbsp; The same went for the&nbsp;scientists in the Church&nbsp;during Galileo's time.&nbsp;

Evolution, I believe it's man's theory.
Man is always looking for answers, if man cant touch it, taste it, and physically feel it how could it be true?
Man has rejected christ from the beginning, nobody beleived, and there are still lots who still dont belive that he is the son of GOD they have rejected the truth from the get go!
They rejected it to the point that they hung an inocent man on the cross because he spoke the truth.
Evolution is the enemy's way to get man to look the other way, to reject that there ever was a creator.

Are we to assume then that the evidence scientists have gathered to support the teory&nbsp;has been&nbsp;planted by Satan for them to find?
