It is both. The mind is not merely an epiphenomenon of the brain, but that's one of the things it is. How God manages to house a spiritual being in a material body may be forever beyond our understanding.

It's those "correlations between the brain and consciousness" that we may never actually comprehend.
In the end it's a spiritual thing, is it not? We will continue to live after our bodies die.

Will our bodies be resurrected after death?

Hmm...

1 Corinthians 15:35-44 would indicate so.

Yes, it is a spiritual matter, not a scientific one.
Actually I am looking at what science has to say about our conscious or consciousness. This can include Jung and the collective unconscious and this can also include a neurological and biological approach. For example we have a vegus nerve that goes from our stomach to our brain. This has an impact on our conscious - for example our food choices. We also have hormones produced by glands in our brain that enter into our blood and plug into receptors in various parts of the body: the heart for example. This also has a impact on our conscious. In the Bible we read we are to love the Lord with all of our Heart, Mind, Soul & Strength. Just what is the connect between our heart and our mind? Why does Moses not even use the word: Mind. Soul is psyche in Greek. Is Psychology the study of the soul (psyche) or a study of the mind (dianoia).

We have lots of people that just do not seem interested or have time to read and study the Bible. They spend a lot of time in college to read and study what science has to say. If we want to reach these people with the gospel we better understand science and know what the university is teaching them. If we say we do not have time for science they may say they have no time for religion or to study the Bible. So we need to maintain this harmony between science and the Bible. Someone has to do that in this day and age.

Will our bodies be resurrected after death?
There are people that say yes. John Wesley was one of them. He went to great length to defend this. For example what if a part of our body was eaten by a fish. He said our essence can not be utilized by another organism. It is dedicated to us. I took on a challenge once: could memory survive death and the answer is it could. If you cremated the body there are enough atoms to story all the information we would need to store. 7*10/27 atoms (that's a 7 followed by 27 zeros!) We are in the general neighborhood of one zettabyte (one sextillion bytes) of information that could be stored in the atoms of our body that would survive a cremation. The internet by comparison has 3.7 Zettabyte of information stored on all the servers that make up the internet. This of course is a binary system. DNA is made up of four different letters. Of course this makes the assumption that if we are cremated and our ashes are spread out over the ocean, then God has a way to bring all those atoms back together again. That would include all of our memory and all of the information contained in our DNA. I do not believe memory is ever lost. WE may lose our ability to access that information but it is still there.

Note: my son is MUCH better at math then I am and he can produce formulas that can make this a lot more simple if need be.

BTW all the the atoms in our body could fit in a teaspoon. So if you stored information on atoms then the entire internet would take up about 3 teaspoons. They just came out with a computer that cost about ten cents and is the size of a grain of salt. They have the power of a computer made in the 90's.

According to my son all the atoms in our body 7*10/27 would be equal to 87,500 zettabytes of information. The entire internet is 3.7 zettabytes. So if any of you can do college math to check this out let me know. Or I can ask him to have one of the upper class friends check his math. We are doing a comparison between the TOTAL number of atoms in our body and the total number of bits of information on the internet. Like I said, he has formulas to make this very easy to understand. I have trouble converting from a bit to a byte.

If you took out all of the space in our atoms, the entire human race (all 7 billion of us) would fit into the volume of a sugar cube. You Could Fit The Entire Human Race Into A Sugar Cube — And 13 Other Facts To Put The Universe Into Perspective
