  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I wouldn't say the Big Bang is anything like hell.

Well can you imagine being there, the way BB is currently described? Sounds like hell to me. No I'm not saying this has any actual theological significance, and yes the comparison struck me as odd at first, but it is interesting to follow along with another's view who is so different.

The United Federation of Planets.

Sure.

No doubt Star Trek is a myth that has inspired me, but I'd prefer something more libertarian than Roddenberry's generally leftist vision for the Federation.

Also, I don't insist in any way on humanity spreading beyond this solar system, since there might not be suitable planets within a reasonable number of light years, and we may never develop a working FTL drive. Contrary to Star Trek's narrative, humanity might be like an in-door house cat that stares out of the windows at birds, but can never touch them.

Might I suggest $ is not necessary, and this website can be exactly that? That this is consistent with the site owner's purpose in having non-Christian areas, because God Himself values even people that reject He exists?

There is something about a physical structure that adds extra, and possibly needed, symbolic value. Consider how governments support political monuments that lend legitimacy to their existence. Without the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, and Mount Rushmore, the US government would be somehow... less.

But I'll agree that symbolic value can be found in many places, such as the iconic television show Star Trek, and one can experience symbolism in discussion online.

Despite obvious differences in our meta-narratives, this statement here is CRUCIAL to Christianity.

Oh? How so?

I see no reason why what needs to be done needs to be obstructed by any human differences.

Ideas have consequences, and differences in ideas can have different and unexpected consequences.

It doesn't sound like hell to me. It is nothing like it, unless really hot is the only thing you think about.

I'm not saying that the big bang is like hell. I mean primitive life. Struggle for survival. Dog eat dog. No civilization. Etc

The Big Bang didn't have primitive life though, or a struggle for survival. And I don't consider evolution to be much like hell either. It is amoral survival and reproduction, not fiery punishment.

Sorry to be disagreeing with you all the time. :p
