Our church has been running an adult education class about science and faith, and we just did two classes devoted primarily to evolution. If you are interested in our approach to dealing with the subject (or if you are really bored and have a lot of time to kill), the classes have been videotaped; the two classes on evolution are here and here, and the other classes can be found here. (Viewing requires a password, but the password is provided on the web page.) I don't agree with everything that is said in all of the talks -- not surprising, since they were designed to present more than one perspective.

Thanks! I just started listening to it and from what I've heard so far, the teacher is very informative.

Glad to see someone dealing with the issues (and accurately explaining the science) in a church context. What a great contrast to the deceptions of so so many "origins ministries" which lie about the science.

The teacher for the evolution classes is me.

Seems like a nice video, I am glad to see you teach sensible things like that in your Church. I didn't have time to watch it all, will try later.
Be warned that it contains both science and theology.

I don't mind theology, au contraire, I frequent a church very similar to yours (read about it on the website). What I do mind is creationists misinforming the public about science.

Amen to that! No matter what one's particular position on origins may be, the fact that there are 128,000 Google hits on "Lying for Jesus" is a sad reality.

And, SFS, I'm almost finished listening to both videos and I'm saving the link so I can listen to the rest of your lectures as you post them. Thank you for announcing them here!

Anyone watching the humans/week 8 video, about 2:45, slide with animals that don't get scurvy, lower left corner of your screen.

:)

Yes, it's a great video and I'm going to watch the entire series as it is posted.

But I'm not sure what USincognito's post is saying about it. Are you implying a question? Or perhaps an observation that went over my head? (Is that slide a kind of response to something just posted on this thread?)

The video and some of the more knowledgeable posters on these threads represent real gems scattered among the all-too-deliberately-dull rocks which tend to frequent these forums. (The gems contribute valuable knowledge while it appears that some of the creationism-evolution forum participants come here to try and confuse, heckle, and SUBTRACT from the educational value of the threads. [I doubt that naming names would at all be necessary. They seem to be very proud of their self-appointed heckler roles. As one former visitor to CF use to say about them, "Somewhere there is a village missing its _____."])

I want to see if I'm the only one that notices so, for now, let's just say one image on sfs's Power Point has zero copywrite issues.

Looks really good. You did a good job of making the material understandable to a general audience. Also, some of the questions from the audience were good ones.

Not that I was asked, but I would call this an example of technoheresy, the introduction of Antibiblical teachings into the Church.

I have to ask you, sfs, because my desire to know supersedes my desire to exist: Do your hymnals have the Blood removed from them?

(I'm just wondering, so please don't get all emotional on me.)

Well of course, another Christian with a view different from yours? Impossible, must be heresy!

And of course, you choose to ridicule the one who holds the view different from yours ... right?

Nope, I chose to point out (trust me, that was not ridicule) that you are saying a fellow Christian is committing heresy simply because he understands a scientific principle and that principle does not shake his faith.

That's pretty far from the application of my definition, isn't it? and interesting that you dropped the qualifying prefix (techno).
