And if covenant theology is a little over your head, try dispensation theology.

Genesis 15:13 And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;
Genesis 15:14 And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance.

They didn't give that land up, they were put in Egypt as a judgment for disobedience.

Each dispensation ends in a judgment, and the judgment that ended the dispensation of Promise was the Egyptian Captivity.

In fact, here's the list of dispensations and their judgments:

1. Innocence ... expulsion from the Garden.
2. Conscience ... global flood.
3. Human Government ... confusion of tongues at Babel.
4. Promise ... Egyptian captivity.
5. Law ... the Cross.
6. Grace ... the Tribulation.
7. Kingdom ... the Great White Throne Judgment.

I've already used the example of going on a vacation and coming home to find your house commandeered by squatters.

Except that's not the case here -- you're not going on vacation; you're abandoning your house because it's on fire.

The Israelites weren't on a pleasure trip -- had they stayed in their "promised land" they would've died slowly and painfully in the drought.

So much for promises, I suppose.

In any event, the "implications" of evolutionary theory are quite benign compared to the observed results of the alternative.

When you buy a house they sell you title insurance, so you have to take it up with them. Something like that is so rare that the insurance is very cheap. People only own property when they are registered with the city or country as the owner.
