If not, your comments about him have to be questionable.Hugh Ross has a PhD in Astrophysics. Ross is an old earth Creationist who went into ministry in 1986. As far as I can tell he hasn't worked in his field since establishing his ministry although he has published books and videos on Creationism topics. Any recognition he has appears to stem from his Creationist ideas rather than any specific work in astrophysics,
This thread is about ERVs, genetics and evolution. The study of genetics and evolution requires a degree in the biological sciences. Astrophysics is not a biological science. While Ross is welcome to his opinions, he is not qualified to offer expert comment on biological topics like genetics, evolution and abiogenesis.
You appear to have conflated Big Bang/old earth cosmology with abiogenesis and evolution. Scientifically speaking these are three separate, unrelated topics. In my experience this type of confusion is common among Creationists who tend to lump them together as 'Origins'.
For expert opinion on evolution and genetics from a Christian perspective I suggest you visit BioLogos. BioLogos is an organisation founded by Francis Collins, the original leader of the Human Genome Project and a practising Christian.

Those like you with no background knowledge of science are in a ( very ) poor position to tell those who are educated, how to assess somebody's claims.
I saw that one. I felt that Dr Ross had greater control in the debate than Dr Hovind. As soon as Dr Hovind started to accuse Dr Ross of heresy and promoting a cult he lost the debate as far as I was concerned. I saw Dr Ross' debate with Jason Lisle, and both of them were very interesting. I have yet to view some of Dr Lisle and I'm sure I'll learn a lot from them. The problem with Dr Hovind was that he was not able to address the scientific information that Dr Ross was putting to him. All he could say was "The Bible says." Dr Ross was also able to say, "The Bible says", but pointed out that the Hebrew word "yom" was not limited to mean a 24 hour day. The reason why Dr Hovind was on the back foot most of the time, and his body language showed it, is that he is not a scientist with only high school science and therefore not a match for Dr Ross; but Dr Lisle was a fellow scientist and they were more evenly matched.Did you see the John Ankerberg show, where he had Kent Hovind and Hugh Ross go head-to-head?

Of course, anyone who is adamantly stuck on a young earth creation will treat anyone who has a different view as a false teacher and charlatan. So I am not surprised by your attitude to Dr Ross. But I am not prejudiced in that way, and am prepared to learn from a person who makes sense to me. Having two post graduate degrees I think I know when someone knows what he is talking about.S
