  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Everyone knows that Evolution is not true. The only problem is that we have nothing better to replace it with and that means it becomes our best guess. Recently I went through a program where I had a dietician work out a personalized diet for me. They are very good with what they do and they know all the latest research and findings. Still this is based on their best guess and new information becomes available all the time. One day I asked her about the Paleo diet. This is a diet based on the types of foods presumed to have been eaten by early humans, consisting chiefly of meat, fish, vegetables, and fruit, and excluding dairy or grain products and processed food. One problem with this diet is that little is known about the diet of Paleolithic humans, it is very likely that they consumed wild grains and legumes. O wait, little is known? Is that yet another weak leak in our evolution theory. Our conclusions are based on insufficient data? I am by the way no novice on dieting. I have lost around 500 pounds in my lifetime if you add it all up. I lost 150 pounds on one diet once upon a time. Now doctors say this is not good for us to be a yo yo dieter like that. Again this blows a big hole in evolutionary theory because the theory is that we evolved to survive feast and famine. Times of plenty and times of scarcity. I do believe that IF you want to lose weight then you had better understand how the body works, because when you're in a weight loss mode it really is not that difficult to lose weight and your really not all that hungry. But if you body is in a feasting mode you can pretty well forget the idea of losing weight. We are coming out of the holidays now and this is traditionally the time when people go into a mode to try and lose the weight they gained between Thanksgiving and New Years. As some of us snowbirds dig in to hibernate for the winter. My point is this. One field of science namely evolutionary science theory seems to contradict another area of science modern medicine and the science of diet and nutrition. In this case the nutritionists has a master's degree but she knows more about it then the doctors do because this is a full time job for her.

Try splitting up what you say in to ACTUAL paragraphs instead of just one single wall of text.

And your post literally makes no sense, ignoring your incredibly ignorant first two sentences: you lost weight because of a diet, so that leads you to conclude that evolution is false?

And of course it's not healthy to be a yo-yo dieter. Health risks of yo-yo dieting.

Never mind, I can see you're not interested in a discussion on the topic. We will see if anyone comes along with something constructive to add.

Then plainly say what you want to discuss rather than just hiding it inside a wall of text that is almost literally impossible to understand.
Make your point concisely and simply.

In this case the nutritionists has a master's degree but she knows more about it then the doctors do because this is a full time job for her.

My suppositions are as follows:

You don't understand evolutionary biology
You don't understand human nutrition
Your misunderstanding of both leads you to draw the faulty conclusion that one contradicts the other

Some objections to your post:

The first sentence is false, on multiple accounts
Yes, human nutrition is a complex topic and the science of how our body deals with its intakes still has gaps in it.
This is not a "weak leak in our evolution theory" by even the most tennuous of connections.
Yo-yo dieting is bad for you - the famine/feast cycles of our near evolutionary past occured across multiple time scales, but the majority of time was spent on the up/down part of the cycle, not the top/bottom of the cycle.
There is no such thing as 'weight loss mode' or 'feasting mode' - there is caloric gain or caloric loss. On a weight level, its that simple. It may be different on a psychological level or even on a practical, cultural and social level.
Again, if you understood our near evolutionary history, specifically the development of horticulture and agricultre, you'd understand why no contradiction exists.

If we examine the physiology and diet of our distant cousins, the great apes, we will notice that their diet was almost exclusively vegetarian with very little if any meat. They also has an extremely long digestive tract in order to extract maximum nutrition from the plants they ate. In order to get sufficient nutrition, they virtually had to be eating all day long. Raw meat is even more difficult to digest than plant matter.

The discovery of fire hundreds of thousands of years ago changed all that. By roasting or boiling their food they were in essence predigesting their food thus making the whole process far more efficient. The very long gut was no longer a necessity.

If we now look at our own physiology and diet we will notice that we are no longer exclusively vegetarian in that most diets include some animal protein in the form of meat or sea food. Our guts are also a whole lot shorter than our distant ancestors.

There is a very simple explanation but a great many people deny evolution.

The first sentence is false
The problem with the first sentence is that when people read it they seem to shut down and quit thinking. The problem with paragraphs is that I am use to facebook where there are no paragraphs.

I may not understand evolution, but I understand it better then 98% of the people in this WORLD. So where does that leave us if by your logic and reason almost no one or a VERY small percentage understands your theory?

Usually the way I PROVE this statement is I begin to list the books I have read that has something to do with evolution. Then I ask you how many people IN THE WORLD have read any books at all on the subject? How many people in the world have read a Biology book and a Chemistry book? How many people know about Harvard Professor Stephen Jay Gould and punctuated equilibrium. How many people know that his fellow Harvard professor did not accept his theory and instead Ernst Mayr clung to gradualism. This is an adaptation of uniformism theory that Darwin adapted from his good friend Charles Lyell theory that is still accepted for Biology. The difference is that Lyell maintained his integrity and his Christian beliefs where Darwin did not attempt to reconcile his evolutionary theory with Science. This has now been attempted by Francis Collins who has a Theistic Evolutionary theory that is fairly well accepted across the board by everyone.

The key statement here is that Evolution is the best explanation that we have right now. When the Dover school district took the issue to court this was the decision of the Judge. Evolution may not be perfect but it is the best explanation that we have. That is no reflection at all as to how true or accurate the theory is. Books like The Half-Life of Facts shows us that everything we know has a expiration date.(Samuel Arbesman) So knowledge is rather short lived and always replaced when new knowledge comes along. That is the nature of science and anyone that understand science at all know this to be true. When I was in High School (1968) I read James D. Watson book The Double Helix. Now look at how far we have come in our understanding of DNA. Recently I read Francis Collins book on The Language of God. He is the leading expert on DNA right now. Collins tells us that: "formation of the basic building blocks of RNA has not been achievable in a Miller-Urey type of experiment, nor has a fully self replication RNA been possible to design". So you may claim that your theory is true but you lack the tools to prove it beyond question. The point being that DNA is the "Language of God" and it is NOT a self replication process. Life did not create itself. Of course Evolutionary theory says NOTHING about the natural laws that life has to follow. Evolutionary theory says NOTHING about where these laws come from.

Anyways as usual I am rambling so I will stop.

The discovery of fire hundreds of thousands of years ago changed all that.
I have read at least three books on fire and evolution. Recently I did a study on the effect that fire IE heat has on food, esp veggies. Cooking does make food a lot easier to digest. Some of the vitamins and nutrients are heat sensitive and some are not. My wife is very good at cooking food to the point where it is the most nutritious. I tend to overcook food to where it begins to lose some of it's value.

AS far as our primitive ancestors some were vegetarian and some were carnivorous. I have tried to do a study on just when carnivorous life began but that is difficult to do because even simple bacteria tends to feed on something. What I was really looking for was when teeth evolved to where they could eat flesh as compared to eating fruits and vegetable. I spent a lot of time doing a study of the Ghost Ranch in New Mexico and doing a study on the dinosaurs that they found there. It was after the dinosaurs began to devour each other that Pangea was broken up and this was the beginning of plate tectonics or continental drift. At the time the climate was very different and primates were very small. This began when the “windows of heaven” opened. The very humid atmosphere fell to the earth. There was a major change in the atmosphere at this time. Soon to be followed by an ice age.

the majority of time was spent on the up/down part of the cycle, not the top/bottom of the cycle.
This is not correct. Adam and Eve 6,000 years ago was the beginning. Before man became a food producer he was a food gather or a hunter gather. The beginning around 12980 years ago when the last ice age ended man began to be a food producer. His dog was changed from a hunting dog to a herding dog. He began to pen in the animals rather than to chase after the hurds.

This is not correct.

You might want to take a look at studies of subsistence and hunter-gatherer societies, particularly those that look at divergence in feast/famine cycles between tropical climates and those in more northern latitudes with more distinct winter/summer cycles.

In climates with strong hot/cold cycles, feast periods were comparatively short and intense, followed by longer periods of steadily reducing caloric intake, then a period of steady or below maintenance caloric intake (famine), before a comparatively rapid increase in caloric intake once again.

In more steady climates, the feast/famine cycle is noticeably reduced. Caloric intakes are generally more steady, and feast/famine cycles are less intense, with shorter and smaller peaks and troughs.

Adam and Eve 6,000 years ago was the beginning.

There's no evidence of such.

Before man became a food producer he was a food gather or a hunter gather. The beginning around 12980 years ago when the last ice age ended man began to be a food producer.

You'll need to shift your timeline back at least 7,000 years, probably more like 10,000 years.

There's evidence of farming of domesticated grains about 23,000 years ago. Evidence of semi-sedentary horticulture is even older, possibly as far a 30,000 years ago.

Humans domesticate the pig at least 15,000 years ago. Domestication of the fig is traced back to 16,000 years ago.

Your timeline needs work.

Everyone knows that Evolution is not true.

Not true. The vast majority of people who study evolution conclude that it is true, and the vast majority of people who say evolution is false have never studied it.

The paleo diet is just another fad diet. And I doubt it is based on the most solid of science.

There is a huge amount of data supporting evolution.

One field of science namely evolutionary science theory seems to contradict another area of science modern medicine and the science of diet and nutrition. In this case the nutritionists has a master's degree but she knows more about it then the doctors do because this is a full time job for her.

diet is about how the body deals with food intake and that sort of thing. It's not really connected to evolutionary theory.

Lamont et al (2016) has proven that the Paleo diet does not work for everyone. It works for diabetics because of the carbohydrate/fat measurement. There is an article if you want to go more in depth.

joshua 1 9 - people are going to criticise you because you don't back up your statements with evidence. Nobody is stopping you from saying anything but they won't take you seriously if you can't back up your arguments.

That makes no sense! If you come onto a discussion board then you should open up a discussion in a way that draws people in instead of turning them off bc of an inflammatory falsehood. If you don't want to talk to people, why bother coming to a forum. Not only is evolution fact, it explains why yoyo dieting is terrible for you.

I stopped reading after the total falsehood that "everyone knows evolution (btw, that doesn't need to be capitalized) is not true."
:D LOL! I did exactly that too!
Never mind, I can see you're not interested in a discussion on the topic. We will see if anyone comes along with something constructive to add.
As has been explained, opening with an outright falsehood, in combination with a wall of text - makes it hard to get into it...
Fixed this for you, in terms of readability:

There, fixed that for you... Still arguable of course, but the rest of the first world nations are far less troubled about teaching science, and evolution accordingly...
