  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I know of some people that have those bad dreams when you feel like you are being chased by some evil presence. You try to run, but you just start to run slower. I've never nor know of someone that had turned around to face this evil presence. I used to get these dreams often. But lately ~3-5 years now I have been having a different kind of dream.

I'm lying in my bed and my room is arranged exactly the way I remember it before I fall asleep. It feels more real than any other dream. In fact, it doesn't feel like I'm dreaming. I can't move and feel an evil presence on my body holding me down. I try to yell out, "In the name of Jesus Christ, I rebuke you! Leave me!." I can't even yell it in my mind. Eventually after 3-5 attempts I finally yell it and feel the presence back off and then I wake up. It feels so real that the only way I know I was dreaming is because I "wake up." Well it doesn't feel like I wake up from a nap. It feels strange. Sort of like a change in consicousness. I have these dreams 3-5 times a year for the last 3-5 years.

But now last night, I got another dream that was different. I was in my apartment, but everything in my apartment was exactly the way it is in real life. I used to get dreams of my home, but there would always be something different. A room in a different place or furniture switched around. Anyways, this dream had my apartment like it is in real life. I was walking down my hallway and then a black image that felt like an evil presence appeared from my room and came face to face with me. I felt overwhelmed and dropped to the ground to cower. I didn't drop to bow, instead it was a drop out of fear. Like a curled crouch. I don't know why I didn't run. It felt so real, but then in a split second I was on my bed with the same evil presence pressing against my body. This is so wierd. At this point everything felt so real, but then I realized that this had to be a dream because one instance I'm in the hallway and instantly I'm now in my bed. I try to yell out, "In the name of Jesus Christ, I rebuke you!" It eventually left and I "wokeup".

If anyone that's had these kinds of dreams, please let me know if you have ever turned around after running to face the evil presence. Or if you've come face to face with an evil presence and stood your ground.

I've reread the "Armor of God" in Ephesians 6: 10-17. Next time I will be ready to stand my ground and fight. Please pray for me. Thanks.

This thing is wicked, whatever it is... Next time you "dream" about it, fight it. Take out a sword, an axe, a bow & arrow, anything. You can a lot of times try to control these. Other times, you can't.

Something I'd like you to do... Go into a kind of vision state, like daydreaming, but with your eyes closed. Go back to this dream, and break out some weapons. Call some angels for help. That's another, thing, call on angels. They will pretty much be there every time you call them for help to battle something.

Then, fight it. With the angels. Fight the thing and freakin' burn it. I get the feeling like it's a spirit of rejection and/or death. Don't worry, you won't die or anything and no one is going to turn against you or anything. It's just something the devil is after.

There is an angel called the Watcher Angel. He watches over your household and over you to help protect you and help you fight off these things. I don't know if a "watcher" angel is scriptural, but I have seen him many times, as well as friends, family, and prophets. Ask him to help you sometime. Or any angel for that matter.

Hope that helped you and/or made sense...

I don't know. I see a lot of these. They are not from God, but they are common to all Christians. In a sense they are from God because He allows us to go through the wringer for various reasons.

For one, I do not think people should focus on them. It is evil. Move on. We must always keep our eyes away from evil and keep moving forward.

If we fail in temptation, then repent, but above all believe in Jesus for the forgiveness of your sin and move on. Do not look back, like Lot's wife.

Why do these things happen to us? For one, these things are sometimes as the 'thorn in the side' Paul spoke about having so he would not grow conceited. I have often found myself starting to grow conceited, then I would fall in some sin, and that would clear all of that up.

I have had numerous dreams of these kinds myself and suffer every manner of arrow from the evil powers. Generally, to tell the truth, I say a simple prayer, which is simply: "Keep wickedness away from me". Or, "Lord, have mercy on me".

Often times there is visual aspects to this prayer.

Never give them more thought then they deserve, though. They feed on attention and fear.

I have never come face to face with evil in a familiar place in dreams. But I have stood up to the evil before. The evil I see comes as a road block to a goal or destination. I face it, and begin to walk forward. I keep walking and walking and praying.

Satan has visited me in my sleep so often I have learned to force myself to wake up in the dream. It is a very painful thing to try to do but once I have emerged from the dream I begin to pray. I may know what you mean about waking up, but from a different sort of conscieousness. There used to be evil that would visit me in the place between sleep and awake. Like if you wake up in the night to go to the bathroom, you are awake but at the same time kind of sleeping. I would see things in this conscieous state.

Wish I could explain it or write it off as some psychological disorder but I can't.

I have had many dreams, mostly prior to becoming a christian, in which demons attacked me and I'd wake up scared. The most intense one was 18 months ago or so. We had recently moved into my childhood home but my husband and I were both saved by then. I think I was intruding on someones space:-
I dreamed that my cousin, who had downs syndrome in real life, was speaking to me, and I was marvelling at this. I was cleaning up after him in the toilet. It was rather yuckky. Then he said 'I remember you'.
I said 'Of course you do'
Then I looked closely at him and his eyes were bright green, then his skin turned completely green, by which time I knew it was a demon! Then it started to vomit at me. I said 'In Jesus name" and it and the stream of vomit dissolved. I woke up terrified because I could still feel the thing in the room.
The next day, after we had come home from church, I went into toilet and it was covered in excrement for reasons that I won't go into. We didn't sleep in the house that night.
The next night we did return though and my pastor and his wife had prayed with me and bound the demon from harming me. That was the last I heard from it, but 6 months later, while digging out a dead bush, we found a green, plastic shrunken head, which I clearly remember getting as a child, (I clearly wasn't impressed). It was only a foot or so from my bedroom window and I think it was the object the demon was manifesting through. We put it to the local incinerator and we have since anointed and cleaned out the house.

Part of a reference to demons in Mark 9:
28When He came (R)into the house, His disciples began questioning Him privately, "Why could we not drive it out?" 29And He said to them, "This kind cannot come out by anything but prayer." (NASB)

As someone already said, those things like attention. Even Christians can unintentionally give them what they're after, especially if we try to fight them on our own.

Perhaps you could try delving more deeply into the word and prayer, especially at night. I'm not saying that you don't already read and pray faithfully. But if you have a spiritual battle on your hands, you will need to conciously draw even more on the power of God.

I know you said you tried to rebuke them in the name of Jesus. Have you actually prayed to the Lord during those times? I mean when you are sleeping and they appear. Even something simple like "Heavenly Father in Jesus name, help!" Or, "Help, Lord!" It's not the eloquence of our words, of course; it's the fact that we're calling on the Lord. I know it sounds like splitting hairs, but it's helped me.

I've had several nightmares in my life; many of them were before I was saved. I've noticed that, at times (in my dreams), I've had trouble mouthing the word, "Jesus," but I remember that as a child, I also had trouble screaming in dreams. I would try, but it would come out as a strong breath, or something like that. Now, I rebuke it in the name of Christ, or sometimes, call on Christ to defeat it.

I pray for protection before I fall asleep. I don't know why, but there have been a lot of times I've woke up binding and rebuking in Jesus' name.

A couple of times, I've had to bind and rebuke...phooey, I can't think of it right this minute, but it's another term for 'out of body experience'. Anyway, it is the practice of travel with demons. And they do cause night terrors and sometimes appear to be real. It's still just the devil though.

I always know when it is about that because the thought will come to mind, "those who spy on our liberty in Christ Jesus".

Ever since that night I have come into these forums and have been reading more of the bible and praying.

Another thing sort of off topic... about 3-4 months ago, I started waking up in sweat. There would be a patch of sweat on my pillow and my head would be sweaty. It wasn't because I was hot. I had a great job going and life was great. I didn't have any anxiety or bad feelings. This was a complete mystery to me.

I have seen a lot of things happen to me in the last 3 weeks.

astral projection! that's the name I was trying to think of. I would bind and rebuke astral projection.

Go back and ask the Lord if there is something you have come into agreement with that is not of Him, or if there is anything that you've brought into your home that has a demonic spirit attached to it (books, movies, jewelry, whatever). If it is, burn it.

The most evil dream I ever had was bizzare.
I was floating above a small road or lane, during a beautiful summers day, in the middle of an (apparently) English country-side, looking out over a field, I felt as if I was looking for something.
Then suddenly I had the most horrendous feeling of dread hit me like a freight train, like that crunching feeling in your stomach and chest when you jump or freak out, but 100 times worse.
I woke up making a really freaky noise, like I was trying to scream but couldn't, it was horrible.
But I'm not sure what caused it, if it meant anything, or if there was a presence in my room.
Very scary...
Fortunately it hasn't happened again (it was about a year ago).

let me tell you i got chills reading your story b/c it is so similar to what happened to me recently! i've had nightmares ever since i can remember! a couple of months ago, after starting to go to a new church for the first time in a long time, my nightmares got worse. i always had the dream where i'd walk into a room and all the lights go out and i knew someone/thing was there. often i could pray in my dream and when i was thinking clearly enough to do that, it seemed to work. well i had just confessed to my husband that i prayed to God in my nightmares to make everything ok, and i had a dream that i was laying in my bed like normal, and a dark thing w/ a hat came into my room and stood right beside the bed and said something in a voice so low and distorted i couldn't make it out- well i went to pray and cast him out and this time i couldn't move or speak! i felt him pressing my shoulder down and then i woke up. at first i thought "great! now what do i do?!" but i started praying to God- i had 2 more dreams that night that i won't get into b/c of length- but the 2nd was also a bit scary- same dark dude- and the last was a redeeming one- basically freeing me of nightmares ever since. i still get an occasional weird scary one, but i think satan knows i am a strong believer now so they are less frequent. i had alot of people praying for me about sleeping, too which i know helped! i, too felt so tired after a night of that! just let those demons know whose in control!!

I have had this happen also (not being able to move--held down--just like your awake). I was searching for someone who had similar dreams and found this post. My last "dream" was different. I "awoke" in my dream because I heard something in my bedroom. Once again, I'm being held down, and I cannot speak. I can barely mumble Jesus, and I cannot rebuke the spirit. The only difference in this "dream" than the others is that I was not scared-- I was MAD because the spirit had no right to be in my realm of influence. After this, I dream of praying in tongues over my furniture. NOTE: I have some furniture in my bedroom of my ex-husband's whom I believe has evil spirits. I had another dream not too long ago, and I was praying, asking God how to fight these battles while I'm asleep and I thought of this dream:

I was underground, and this evil man--a demon, Satan--I don't know what--came out of this tunnel. He looked like Freddy Kruger from the Nightmare on Elm Street, but worse. I do not know if he knew I was there or not, but even if he did, he didn't care. He came out to a lake of fire (that term sticks in my head) and all these thin strap-things that are part of his body reach into this lake of fire and stir it up. I knew that when this happened, the oceans of the earth were being stirred up. I ALSO noticed that when he did this, he was really weak and scrawny looking. Then, I walk out of this place, and up into a doorway that leads to Wal-Mart. All of the sudden, this evil thing is looking for me, and I am hiding in the aisles. I am holding a bag of blue water. He gets pretty close to me, and I decide to stand up to him because if I don't, then he will just attack me anyway, and I will just sit there, defenseless. Before he gets too close to me, I stand up, and I throw this blue water on him, and he melts away.

In TRYING to interpret (which I am not good at), I think Freddy as being one who haunted people in their dreams. That is why I think the answer to battling it is in this dream. Also, someone told me that when I told them of this dream, they thought of the Scripture in Isaiah that says something like "This is the one who was tormenting me/oppressing me?" That is not the right wording at all, but the idea is noticing the smallness and frailness of the evil man.
Is the answer in recognizing that we have the Spirit of the Almighty God residing in us, and where we are weak, He is made strong, and so in battling this, we let His Spirit take over? Recognize that greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world?

Yes, I have done this. Stood up to a demon, rebuked it, and it left.

When I was 19, I began having recurring dreams of demons following me, haunting me. I had these for almost a year. I would even be visiting at someone elses house, stay the night and then I would dream of the demons telling me they would be there, following me no matter where I went. Finally... it occured to me to rebuke them in the name of Jesus. For some dumb reason I hadnt thought of it before... I did, and I felt the strength of God as I did it! Didnt have another dream. Not like those anyway. Not sure what to tell you though, since you have said this... say it with the strength in knowing that Christ has overcome the world!!!

I had a dream about Freddy Krueger several years ago. I don't know if it was demonically influenced though.

I was a traveling deliverance minister and I was looking for the town that had this spirit named Freddy Krueger haunting it. I wanted to banish him. So I did what they did in the movies, I fell asleep and waited for him to come. When he did, I rebuked him in the name of Jesus but I think there was some doubt in my voice because he didn't go away. He tried to tell me there was no God to call on. I rebuked him again and he went away.

Anyways, before I fall asleep, I pray Psalm 4:8. "I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety." I found this verse after I had some particularly nasty (in the porno sense) dreams. I would also pray that the Lord would give me good dreams and fun dreams. Sadly, I've only had a few dreams in the last few weeks. I love dreams (as long as they're not nasty).

I had a man in my room last night...dark shadow (dreaming--as we described). I was able to move, and I sat up in bed and told him to get out. Then, I was sitting up in bed, asleep, praying in tongues trying to wake up (in my dream). I assume my spirit was praying? Anyway, I finally woke up, but I don't remember the presence leaving before I woke up.
