I've heard about most of that before. But, aghh...I still love the animated Disney films. They're beautiful, funny, and still better than a lot of the stuff that gets released these days. *cough*Shrek*cough*

About that Lion King thing...there's another, more convincing theory that the dust in the sky actually reads 'SFX' as is a nod to some of the film's makers. As for the Little Mermaid poster...it's either just a dirty in-joke or a calculated marketing ploy - something to get the onlooker's attention and interest without them quite knowing why...or so I've heard.

I'll need to take a closer look at that site, I think, when I'm feeling less cranky.

Out of interest, why were you mad about it, Snowy?

You don't like Shrek???

Honestly, the worldviews in a movie like shrek are far more positive and less subversive than in *many* disney movies. Who didn't love the message about beauty?

That website does have some very disturbing information on it, and from what the guy says, he did alot of research to find his facts. But he just sounds so angry!! I mean, more so than you would get if just doing research or reporting the facts, all through it I was wondering what the story was behind his interest. Also, I was reading about the injuries/deaths accidents at Disney, and alot of them seemed to me to be the result of people (meaning the customers/tourists/whatever) being neglectful. Granted, there are two sides to every story, but sometimes people need to take responsibility for their own actions....my humble opinion only! Please don't take offense! :) I did find it really interesting reading, though, and it opened my eyes, things aren't always as they seem! (but I'm still hooked on their animated films! child at heart, I guess!)

Show me one child that could have pointed any of those details out before this guy (or others like him) told them to go looking for them. And the vast, vast majority of adults missed them, as well.

I don't know about all the medical/injury issues. But I do know there are two sides to everything. And when you have a person who is so bitterly biased toward one side, I find it rather hard to take all that info with anything other than a big grain of salt.

My kids love Disney...they love Shrek, too. I really have no problem with them watching either. They don't get the adult humor and they ignore it completely. I would think you'd be more concerned with the language and the clearly adult insinuations contained in Shrek than the silly things Disney's imagineers do in their spare time to entertain themselves. I seriously doubt their intent is to corrupt the children of the world.

Anyway, I guess I'm just venting, too. No offense. This kind of stuff just gets me steamed.

There's no question that Disney shouldn'r have allowed some of those things... but honestly, would you have noticed if they weren't pointed out to you? I've seen "The Lion King", "The Rescuers", "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" and "The Little Mermiad" more times then I can count. I grew up on these movies. I never noticed. Never, not once. I just recently watched "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" and again, I didn't notice that at all.

Am I going to tell my (future) kids these things? Probably not! THey don't need to know. They're cute films with cute storylines. Disney could have done much, much worse.

Remember there's always 3 sides to a story: Your side, my side and the truth.

I believe its all people makeing something out of nothing, if you look at anything hard enough you can find somthign wrong with it. to be honest I believe this is a sick site and has made disney sounding very rude and nasty. I bet Walt Disney is rolling in his grave.

True but to be honest, I don't think they were put in there on purpose I believe it was just like that and people try to find things to make a big deal out of it, take money for example (American money) if you fold it the right way you can see the twin towers up in flames, that 20 dollar bill was created before it happend.

I heard about "The Little Mermaid" thing when I was in high school. Personally, I think it is sad that people would put it in there, but I am not gonna tell my daughter that she can't watch these movies, after all she hasn't noticed anything wonky about them. I did think that "Hunchback of Notre Dame" was a bit disturbing and dark for kids. Aspen was scared to sleep in her own room for a while after seeing that movie. It gave me the creeps, too. After that I watched movies before she did for a while.

I find it a little hard to believe that no one would notice at Disney. Cartooning is a very complicated process that requires a lot of attention to detail (took a cartooning class). To a degree, I do agree with you. But I think that Disney did let some things slip by.

As for your comment about Walt Disney rolling in his grave, I would say that it's not about pointing out little things like that or even bashing his company, but the quality of movies and tv shows that are being made now. The best movies were made when he was alive and shortly after his death. But things now can't even compare to the quality that was done then.

Lol, nope, I don't like it. I love comedy, and I adore animation, but I was disappointed. Yeah, it had a good message, but mainly it seemed to me like one big, not-very-funny dig at its superior Disney predecessors.

the truth is probably somewhere in between the obviously bias, angry website and the sweet disney sentiment. Disney is a company and companys want profit. I have heard that not so obvious pictures and things get read by our brains sub-consciously, like the little mermaid thing and the Lion king thing, etc. so that we remember them. Commericals do it too, throw something odd or unusuall or sexual into their advertisisng.

I have heard rumors about lawsuits and things like that also, but I think any place that serves that many people (and arent properly trained, come on,no ambulance with emergency intervention available at a park with water that serves more that 50,000 people a day?!?!) thats just plain stupid!

well... I dont know for sure, but I bet its somewhere in between.

LOL, I found the Hunchback of Notre Dame somewhat disturbing as well. I found some of the content to be way too much for small children...the aspects of perverse lust on the part of Frollo (is that the bad guy's name?), the blatant sexuality of Esmerelda (pole dancing, practically), and the violence on the part of Frollo and his troops (locking the peasants in their home and attempting to burn it down). In fact that scene with the family being locked in the house and the house being burned was pretty traumatic for my daughter ("Mommy, why won't the soldiers save those people?" "Mommy, did they lock the children in the house, too?" "But, won't they die?"). And then the fact that they were burning Esmerelda at the stake for being a witch...well, that just opened up the avenue to MORE questions from my poor kids.

I actually liked the movie, but I definitely think it needs a higher rating than G...I would think PG. It's beautifully made and have a very full storyline and dynamic characters, but I'm not sure I would consider it appropriate for the little ones.

Some of the sexual things are so obvious, like the "Laser envy" comment in Toy story or buzz's wings popping out at Jesse in Toy story 2. And yet I hear so many people gasp in surprise when I point out the numerous profanities in Shrek. Are adults really that numb to ass, hell and damn? The kids pick it up believe me, they talk about it together.... and probably think it's funny that it's over the parents heads while parents talk about how it's over the kids heads. It's there, we all know it's there, and we're all in denial.

Instead of just assuming that all of these are true, why not make sure?

Here's an article from Fact or Fiction that raises doubts of malicious intent with the "The Little Mermaid" cover:

http://www.ulrc.com.au/html/report.asp?CaseFile=ULRR0111&Page=1&View=Request&Collection=False:%20believed

While there are some legitimate risque elements to Who Framed Roger Rabbit, the Jessica Rabbit scene appears not to be one of them:

http://www.snopes.com/disney/films/jessica.htm#add

Here's more for you:

http://www.snopes.com/disney/films/films.asp

Please keep in mind that this is the internet, and people can and do tweak photos and frames to make them look different/
