That is your opinion. And I don't consider it to be fact. At all.

Ethics can't be based solely off the Bible. Christian or otherwise.

Ethics is common mindset. Atheists have morals very similar to Christians for the most part and they don't have any writing to go off of.

Do you hear yourself? Christian ethics can't be based solely off the Bible? Do you have any idea how little sense that makes? It's like saying that you're going to make a box out of cardboard and then saying it wasn't made solely out of cardboard. It's stupid.

As a Christian, we have Christian ethics, based off of Christainity's origin, Christ, who is written about in the Bible.

We use common sense. The Bible doesn't say anything about many things that Christians determine are bad. Abortion, drugs or democracy. But Christians still determine whether these are good or bad. They use the Bible to imply certain answers perhaps, but things like government we have to decide for ourselves.

You can't use only the Bible either way. Besides, a box made of cardboard isn't solely cardboard. You also use tape, glue or staples to keep the box together. I'm the metaphor person here, don't steal my job.

Then you'll know that all metaphors break down at somepoint and therefore aren't perfect but merely meant to illustrate a point.

If how we live our lives and how we make decisions isn't governed by the Bible- Christian ethics- than we cannot call ourselves Christian.

That's a good point, about the cardboard. I like the cardboard metaphor, btw.

I call myself Christian, and I don't believe that the Bible is the word of God. I do not look to the Bible at all as an ethical guide, except to the extent that the Bible expresses the teachings of Jesus.

Actually the bible is clear about all of those. And common sense can only be applied within a philosophical system which should be scriptural if you are Christian.

For which part? The second part is just a logical deduction.

The first part. Because my Bible doesn't say anything about drugs or government except to follow government. It's New Living Translation if that helps.

Exactly, we should follow the government that God set for us. Although a specific structure isn't necesserly identified. Do you need verses on anything else?

That explains a great deal. Look up 1 Corinthians 3:16-17. And you may want to start using something that's more accurate to the original language if you want to go more in depth in your Bible. NASB, RSV are generally the most accurate.

We should follow government. So meaning, all those Nazi soldiers wouldn't be punished for their sins because they were simply following their leader. God doesn't necessarily set government anymore because government has become secular and leaders are no longer all followers of God.

I have a question for some of the Christians out there: Can you prove that homosexuality is wrong, harmful, dangerous, etc. without using the Bible?

The reason I ask this question is because on this forum there have beel a lot of debates about if it is wrong from a biblical perspective and why. It just seems to me that if homosexuality is a sin, there should be evidence as to why it is wrong outside of the Bible. Murder is a sin but you don't need the Bible to realize that. The same goes with many other sins.

God breaths his authority into the bible. Without it, I wouldn't know that fornicating and other things I believed to be moral were evil.

Except then I will have to find a new church that uses that translation. Bibles are not cheap. I don't know why they're not but they're not. They're actually some of the most expensive books at Barnes and Noble.

I believe pornia also referred to homosexuality during the days of Jesus. But many homosexuals don't accept this because they love their passion and desires and use their freedom to endulge in it.
I'm not sure what you mean by pornia..?

Except a) the 'homosexual passion' is equivilent to 'heterosexual passion' (gender-pairing aside), and b) there are specific words in Koine Greek that equate to the modern English 'homosexual'. Pornia is not one of them.
