Let proposition P1 = Everyone who calls himself a Christian should follow the example set by Jesus and obey his teachings.

I claim that P1 is true.

Ephesians 5:1-2
Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.

ESV John 14:15
“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.

For some strange reasons, Diamond7 keeps insisting that I claim that P1 is not true despite my several protests. So I post this to make this clear to everyone who reads this.

Both "His example" and "His teachings" are quite vague statements.

Does it mean we should all have 12 apostles or live in Israel? Or that all His teachings are for us today? Practically nobody thinks so. So as with everything, we must consider the context and decide (with a good conscience) what is applicable.

Christ set a sinless example of how to walk in obedience to the Torah and what he taught was in complete accordance with what he practiced.

They make this easy when they use red letters in the Bible. Or for the most part you could just go by the sermon on the mount that just takes up around three chapters in Matthew. Although we need a commentary that helps us to understand His sermon. Most everyone agrees on what Jesus is teaching in that sermon.

Jesus found the 12 and said "if you love me you will keep my words".
John 5:3, it is written: "In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome."

The SUB said.. don't get me wrong is 100%. It just reminds me of this preacher great man of God how was talking about something and said "and those who call them selfs Christians yet don't go to Church". I fully disagree with.. that kind of talk as true as it is is also wrong and can hurt others. Yes there is or should be no discussion on if we love Him we keep HIs words.

Babies are just babies and love milk. Lead someone to Christ? Yeah right after that tell them.. show them if you love Jesus you will obey Him you will keep His word. Its true yet it was never said to babes in Christ. For me its not what Christ said that I then go tell others "do you love Jesus then you will keep HIs words". I have to know I am loving Him.. that I understand what He meant by "love". I can't share something I have never experienced. I can't love Christ more then I love my wife or kids or my worst enemy. Oh we think we can....for me its not how this works. If I love Him I love my wife I love my enemy.. if I hate my bother yet look I am doing all keeping everything Jesus said. No I don't love Him. Its only in this world its OK to stay mad at.. or not talk to so and so..

Anyway.. what is.... just not enough words.. what is so wonderful is He first loved us and that love never ever changes no matter what we do. So maybe understand what love is... far more then just obey or keeping commandments. Oh I deleted my post I think I took the OP the wrong way sorry. But to just say if I love Him I keep His words.. yes amen He said that and its true. But so much more is in that and the NT goes on and on about it

Depends on who our worst enemy is. I do not really have enemies. Although the Army tries to tell us who the enemy is without really explaining why they are considered to be an enemy. Corrie Tan Boon ran into a guard from the concentration camp. He said God forgave him for his cruelty, but he wanted to know if she did. For people like that it may be more personal for them.
