So David, what's your current view about God these days?

I am still an atheist. I have not thought too much about the issue for a while but have missed discussing it. I do not think that I have evolved in my view at all except perhaps in subtle ways that I am not really aware of. I am not sure how much I can add to your understanding of my thinking on this, given our many interactions. :) But I am looking forward to more discussions.

So David, what´s the question you are most occupied with these days?

Hello, quatona :)

Global warming and what to do about it. I am concerned that with our current systems we will not be able to react swiftly enough if we wish to prevent significant suffering. But I am also concerned that radically changing our current systems would represent significant risk and there would be no guarantee that those changed systems would enable us to react any more swiftly.

On a more personal level, I am concerned about how on earth I am going to remember the names of 100-plus students, as I begin teaching in 11 days ...

Oh, and maths problems are keeping me occupied.

Zooming outwards again, marriage equality is on my mind. And our justice systems.

More personally again, cats. Many cats.

How about you guys? What are you up to/thinking about/concerned about?
I guess successful communication and interaction will always remain my top interest. Have been looking deeper into Non-Violent Communication for a while, and next month I am starting a training in "systemic counseling".
Plus, I have been singing, recently.

Lots of stuff has happened on my end. I finally graduated (twice) and am now doing mental health counseling, also teaching one night out of the week. It's rad.

Currently I'm trying to reset my circadian rhythms with very low doses of melatonin and (unsuccessful) light exposure. :)

Good to have you around, D.

What are you teaching? Do you have a specific area in mental health that you focus on?

We have plenty of sun in Australia at the moment, but I am intent on avoiding it.

Successful communication is a big interest for me also. Not too sure how well I am going with it in some areas, but hopefully my teaching will at least be somewhat successful. I am assuming that non-violent communication is about specific techniques?

What kind of music?

How about you guys? What are you up to/thinking about/concerned about?

Politically, I'm still a libertarian. Regarding recent events, I think that Edward Snowden is a heroic whistleblower, and I applaud the recent trend towards legalizing gay marriage.

Regarding the environment, I'm more worried that we might end up in another Ice Age than that the Earth might heat up a little more.

As for my personal life, I'm still employed full time for a decent wage. That alone is reason to be thankful.

I'm still living in Sweden, and the Swedish winter darkness is limiting the operations of my mind. I swear I lose several IQ points. But I make due.

Well, when saying it was my biggest interest I didn´t mean to say I was particularly successful at it.
So I understand this is your first teaching job? What do you teach?

Yes, it´s about very few very simple techniques. But I think there is some more to it...it´s also some kind of philosophy.

Uhm, the selection of songs follows the question "What songs can I do with my limited singing skills?" rather than my musical preferences.
Did some country-esque duets lately - with the guy being on the rough, dirty side and the girl doing the beautiful stuff, if you know what I mean (think Cash/Carter). Also, I am butchering some Tom Waits songs.

Doesn't that mean they end up coming out clean? If you butcher the butcher...

(And what a wonderful butcher he is.)

I quite enjoy Tom Waits. He's a new discovery for me. I've purchased my first 4 albums of his in this last year. Of course, I'd heard plenty of covers of his stuff. His embrace of odd rhythms and odd instruments (maybe I should just say "sound makers") is captivating.

Yes, I find almost every single song he has done special, interesting, inspiring and touching (even though I my not "like" all of them).

And, yes, they tend to come out somewhat cleaner (or with a different sort of dirt on them).
