(((Wow, it seems that everyone had the same idea.)))
Daethalion led Merideth back inside, only to see that, in his absence, the others had left. "Apparently, the others felt the same way," he said. Madam, I will be taking my meal with me. This," he said, handing her a pouch, "Would constitute more than enough for all of our meals, my plate, damages caused by the troubles with the assassins, and a hefty tip." He picked up the platter his meal was set upon and escorted Merideth out the building.
"You really shouldn't be so generous, Maxim," Merideth chided kindly as they strolled down the street.
"Two things never last forever," Daethalion proverbed. "Wealth and happiness, so there is no point in living for them or struggling to keep them."
"You have a point, I guess," Merideth mused.
It was only a few blocks to Merideth's appartment. As they came to the doorway, Merideth turned to face him. "Well," she began with a sigh, "Thank you for trying to show me a good time."
"I am sorry things did not go very well tonight. Perhaps tomorrow, after the tournament registration, you and I could have a session with the blade, and after, another attempt at dinner."
"Really?" Merideth said hopefully.
"Absolutely, Merideth. Namárië."
Merideth smiled gently, "Namárië," she replied as she entered the building.
Daethalion continued on toward the beach. It would be wonderful to wash in the sea and be out of this makeup, then to skate across the pale sands under the moonlight. He could hear the ocean rolling against the shore, peacefully but in the moonlight he could see two figures, his dinner guests. This spoiled his evening plans a little, but if this was who he suspected, it could prove beneficial. "Are these my dinner guests?" he called loudly to them, still holding his platter. "Why it is! Is it not strange that I should meet you here as well? Well, fate has her strange ways. I guess that we all need a bit a calming after tonight, and what better than the sea for that, eh?" He sat on the sands and began to eat his meal, trying to look friendly, and hoping this conversation would not last long so that he could get back to his plans.
