My fiancee listens to Modest Mouse, so I guess I listen by proxy.

They sound like a 2000's version of Talking Heads.

Not my bag.

Yes. Heard/of all of them. I like Modest Mouse alot. Franz Ferdinand was a guilty pleasure for a while, but I've grown somewhat bored of it; I think the Futureheads and Bloc Party are doing the same thing, but much more interesting right now. The Arcade Fire's album probably shouldn't have been Pitchfork's album of the year, but it is still pretty good. And I'm not as familiar with Deerhoof, but what I have heard is alright.

Modest Mouse is probably my favorite band. I can see how the Talking Heads would be one of MM's influences, but I think Mouse has as unique of a sound as most any band out there. Franz Ferdinand is pretty good, but I think most of the world went a little too crazy over them.

FF is just OK. The rest are all great, though. Especially Modest Mouse; I mean, good grief, "Styrofoam Boots/It's All Nice on Ice, Alright" is amazing.

I saw Arcade Fire play on Conan and thought they were terrific.

I'm still trying to hear what's so special about the Arcade Fire. I mean, they're perfectly serviceable indie-rock, with a few flashes of inspiration, but mostly pretty trad. Maybe those Pitchfork guys got a special edition with all the brilliant songs.

^Yeah, I'm not as impressed with them as a lot of people. I like a few songs a good bit, but that album is not even close to the best album of '04, IMO.

Best album? No. But I do think they deserve some credit. Most people just write them off as another indie-rock band, but there is far more going on in some of the tracks then people like to give them credit for. I think it's the subtleties of Funeral that make it stand out above many other indie rock bands. That said, I still think they are somewhat overrated, but I think they are worth listening to.

yeah, that's the way i feel about it. i do think i probably need to give them a little more listening time though, since i've only heard the full album once or twice.

that said, i like all the bands listed in moderation.
