Ever have a song that reflects exactly how you feel?

I have one that explains exactly how I feel. Hoobastank, The Reason.

Sigh, if only I could get another chance. :)
That is a fantastic song. It could easily be like a song of repentance to God, but yeah, as soon as I heard it I just thought, "Wow".

I know of a few songs like that which seem to be tied with relationships to certain people. Some of them I can't listen to unless I have a box of tissues and time to get really nostalgic.

The one I've been most drawn to recently is "What You Are" by Audioslave. That one is pretty self explanatory to anyone that's listened to the lyrics.

But the one I've carried around with me for about 7 years now is "How's It Going To Be" by Third Eye Blind. To me, the song always means thinking about all that's been and currently is and what's yet to come and then going on to live Life inspired and shaped by thos things. I always turn to that song at different crossroads in my life and it's always a comfort because the lyrics are a reminder to me that no matter who comes and goes in your like and the imprint that they make, life is going to keep moving on and I can choose to move with it or be left behind with memories and what ifs. I always move forward because even though some of the memories are good, I know that I need to go make more.

I don't know if this fits in too well, because it's not a particularly personal song, but it's one that I heard recently and really hit me, so I'll share :)

Bob Dylan- "With God On Our Side"

Oh my name it is nothin'
My age it means less
The country I come from
Is called the Midwest
I's taught and brought up there
The laws to abide
And that land that I live in
Has God on its side.

Oh the history books tell it
They tell it so well
The cavalries charged
The Indians fell
The cavalries charged
The Indians died
Oh the country was young
With God on its side.

Oh the Spanish-American
War had its day
And the Civil War too
Was soon laid away
And the names of the heroes
I's made to memorize
With guns in their hands
And God on their side.

Oh the First World War, boys
It closed out its fate
The reason for fighting
I never got straight
But I learned to accept it
Accept it with pride
For you don't count the dead
When God's on your side.

When the Second World War
Came to an end
We forgave the Germans
And we were friends
Though they murdered six million
In the ovens they fried
The Germans now too
Have God on their side.

I've learned to hate Russians
All through my whole life
If another war starts
It's them we must fight
To hate them and fear them
To run and to hide
And accept it all bravely
With God on my side.

But now we got weapons
Of the chemical dust
If fire them we're forced to
Then fire them we must
One push of the button
And a shot the world wide
And you never ask questions
When God's on your side.

In a many dark hour
I've been thinkin' about this
That Jesus Christ
Was betrayed by a kiss
But I can't think for you
You'll have to decide
Whether Judas Iscariot
Had God on his side.

So now as I'm leavin'
I'm weary as Hell
The confusion I'm feelin'
Ain't no tongue can tell
The words fill my head
And fall to the floor
If God's on our side
He'll stop the next war.

In high school, there was a period when this song pretty much summed up my feelings:
Matthew Sweet - I Almost Forgot

You would never turn around
You're laughing at everything
That's bringing me down
Did you say you loved me?
I almost forgot, I almost forgot
That I will never be free
There'll always be something
Stuck inside of me
Did you say you felt that?
I almost forgot, I almost forgot
I almost forgot, I almost forgot
I almost forgot, I almost forgot
You knew me
Changed my name
If love leaves us for a moment
Is it gone forever?
Make up your mind
But then you should never have to choose
Whenever you win you know
I'm wishing you'd lose
So you know I love you
I almost forgot, I almost forgot
I almost forgot, I almost forgot
I almost forgot, I almost forgot

Then in college,
Styx - Come Sail Away

I look to the sea reflections in the waves spark my memory
Some happy some sad
I think of childhood friends and the dreams we had
We live happily forever so the story goes
But somehow we missed out on that pot of gold
But we'll try best that we can to carry on

But usually...it's just a few lines in a song that will speak to me as opposed to the entire thing.

-Matt
