  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Evangelism has never been a topic discussed at length in my church. Although we are taught that we should share the Word of God, it seems as though we often shy away from the subject, being overly concerned with offending others or not being politically correct.

I was wondering where to even begin with sharing the Word of God and my faith with others outside my church family. I was hoping maybe you all had some advice or could tell me some of your amazing stories ;).

Offending someone? Politically Correct? What a load of rubbish (I dont mean you :) )
Yes people are going to be offended at Christ, the word of God says that. But remember, you are going to live your life, THEY are going to be offended. Its got nothing to do with you!
The word of God COMMANDS us to preach the message of Jesus. It doesnt TELL us. It specifically COMMANDS us.

Acts 10:42
And He commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that it is He who was ordained by God to be Judge of the living and the dead. -- NKJV Bold Added.

So that deals with that one! People will ALWAYS be offended at the cross. ALWAYS.

As for being politically correct. If M15 (Or FBI, whoever) bust into my room right now and arrested me for preaching the gospel, I would go peacefully, and share with each of those agents what Jesus did for them. And in the court room the judge would hear it, the jury would hear it, and my lawyers would hear it. Heck, the hangman would hear it.

Im not about to stop sharing what Jesus did on the cross because someone is offended, or because the government doesnt like it.

God Bless, metal.

Please, please, please don't think saying "God loves you" is evangelism. It truely isn't. For one, it gives people a false sense of security. God loves them???? Well unless they have Christ with them, they are judged and condemned already. If you tell them "God loves you", where is the conviction? How will this teach them that they way they are living isn't right with God, and that they must repent of their sins?

But where to start? Maybe start by sharing your testimony? They say the best witness is the way you live your life. And remember, it's not about bringing someone to Christ, it's about sowing a seed, and letting God be the reaper of the harvest in HIS time, so that all the glory is His =]

yes, that track is great for a concise and accurately gospel. It's easy to understand.

does your church run special activities for non-christians? you can also invite your friends to services addressing non-christians whether they be in your church or not.

I think that maybe the reason your church doesn't talk about it is because I noticed that you are Calvinist; I used to go to a presbyterian church when I was younger which is a form of calvinism and the reason that evangelism was never really taught there is because the belief is that God already knows everything like who will receive salvation so we don't need to worry about who has been saved and who has been not.

Personally, I don't completely agree with that; I think that yes, God does know who will receive salvation since God knows everything, but I think that in many cases, His way of bringing those people salvation is by using us to share our faith and to "go and make disciples". It involves going to people who don't know Christ and sharing the gospel. This can be anything from standing on a street corner preaching the word or handing out tracts to everyone who walks by, to having a deep intimate conversation with a close friend about how God has changed your life.
