Is this the..."If you were to die today and at the gates of heaven God asked you why you should be let in?" format?

When I asked my soon-to-be father-in-law for his daughter's hand in marriage...he looked me square in the eye and asked that very question! Boy, was I intimidated! :)

we are working on the testimony.
i'm chafing at the directions to include this major theme of 'certainty of eternal life' that lies at the heart of EE.

it really isn't very important to transmit to someone else how i feel about things like this. My reply is almost in the form of, so what if you believe you are going to heaven if you die tonight. My response is what is the basis, why do you believe such, what gives you the right to make such a claim.

just asserting that i believe God will hold me tightly, as he has in the past, and has done throughout history, but most importantly has done in the provision of the Mediator, is nice, but the grounds of the assertion is what matters.

faith and assurance are attractive, why else would people become Mormons? the theology is dismally childish but those clean cut, confident young people at the door, becoming like them is attractive.
but faith points beyond itself, it is not the faith i have that saves me, rather that is an instrument for laying ahold of the saving power.

so ....
still chafing at the guidelines.
anyone else done this testimony exercise?

Funny,

I don't see Dr Kennedy mention anything near the subject reformed theology when he's on TBN with the purple hair Lady? Very reformed? I don't think so.

Barry
I am not sure who you are speaking of, I have watched Kennedy's show "Truths That Transform" numerous times, and there has never been a lady with purple hair with him... you must be thinking of someone else.....

I've known some very Reformed peopel. That dude is Reformed.
I guess it all depends on one's definition of "Reformed", but I think Laserman has a point. "Very Reformed" is not the first phrase that pops into my mind either when someone mentions Kennedy's name.
