As I said before on different threads, I'm new here. I did a search and I couldn't find a thread like this, so I'm starting one.

In the last episode of the anime Neon Genesis Evangelion (the television program, not the movie)
When the main characters are all in instrumentality (i think), they ask alot of big questions. I thought (for the Christians here) it be interesting to answer them from a Christian perspective, with Bible verses to back them up. Just an idea.

For example, when Shinji (sp?) comes to the conclusion that every creature in exsistance hates him, it raises the question; DOES every creature in exsistance hate me? From the Christian perspective, I think we can easily see the answer is "no", because of God's unfailing love. See John 3:16, Psalm 6:4, all of Psalm 136, 1 John 4:9, and those are just the ones off the top of my head.

Anyone else want to contribute?

Boy,I wish I had an answer for you,but that anime was kind of confusing,so I missed some of the chirstian stuff XD as well as a few episodes.I'll have to re-watch one of these days.
Yes. I agree that series was a little confusing, even for me. I didn't catch what was really wrong with Asuka (is that the name of that red-head who has emotional drama?) She had problems with her mother in her childhood. Didn't her mom have mental problems or something?

Unit 02 took her mothers soul and thats why it seemed as if she had mental problems. The reason Asuka was so upset was because later her mother thought Asuka's doll was Asuka. Later on she hung herself right when Asuka was going to tell her that she was selected to be an Eva pilot. One of the angels made Asuka relive all of those memories and that is why she was so emotional.

The religious references in Evangelion were merely for color, if you understand what I mean by that. The movie ending has a LOT more religious imagery, and is a lot deeper than the series, which has a horrible ending in comparison.

Here's the fun part: Hideki Anno is making four more movies, complete with another ending!

I always was pretty set on that Neo Genesis Evangelion was existentialism. Shinji had to define himself instead of basing his identity upon the thoughts and praises of others (what he percieved as hatred). There was nothing outside of Shinji to define himself (this doesn't work for Christians). This is the way I understood it. It has been about 3 years since I watched it though.

The same thing came up in the Matrix with self substantiation. Basically, Christianity has the word of God as an absolute. Existentialism says there are no absolutes. Kind of like when you go to an art exhibition and they say the art is what ever you think it is. Existentialism is saying morals are whatever you think they are so you have to find something within yourself to base your existence on. I guess I could rewatch it before I start spewing too many words out...

*ahem*

(I know, I know...it's just easier to link to Wikipedia - general summaries are at least one thing it's useful for)
