Are they still Christians? Their song "Tourniquet" seemed Christian-like but i wasn't sure as they use a lot of phrases in their songs like "my suicide" and "i want to die!" The song "Tourniquet" is on the advertisement video for the Audacious youth camp in Enlgand this summer.

I went into a local Christian bookstore and they had an article posted right next to the CD rack regarding Evanescence. Apparently their CD's have been pulled from Christian stores nationwide because of an interview they gave stating just what steverock pointed out. They said they weren't a Christian band and they were trying to distance themselves from that perception. Not only that, but the interview was evidently laden with profanity from the band.
IN response to the outrage from many Christian sources, Windup issued an apology and offered to take the Evanescence CD's back from stores that stocked them believing they were Christian. It sounded like the band even fooled their own record company and put them in an embarrassing situation. I believe the rep from Windup said he was unaware of their new 'beliefs' and that they would screen their artists better in the future.

Don't hold me to the specifics (as I said, I can't remember the exact details of the situation), but I think it can be safely said that they have both feet in the secular world and are pretty happy about it.

yeh here's an article refering to that interview

(4/16/03, 5 p.m. ET) -- Evanescence's interview in the April 18 issue of Entertainment Weekly has created a stir in the Christian music world. As a result, the band's label, Wind-Up Records, is pulling its album from Christian music stores.

Vocalist Amy Lee said in the interview, "There are people that are hell-bent on the idea that we're a Christian band in disguise, and that we have some secret message. We have no spiritual affiliation with this music. It's simply about life experience." Lee adds, "I guarantee that if the Christian bookstore owners listened to some of those songs, they wouldn't sell the CD."

Lee's band mate Ben Moody said in the interview, "I'm not ashamed of my spiritual beliefs, but I in no way incorporate them into this band. We're actually high on the Christian charts, and I'm like, What the f--k are we even doing there?"
