hey...just wondering if anyone likes Evanescence? i think theyre amazing and amy lee has a beautiful voice...
im also quite interested as to what you christians out there think of a christian group singing about commiting suicide...(which evanescence are and do)

I'm not a Christian, and I love Evanescence.

Evanescence ARE NOT a Christian band. Some of the mebers are believers in the Christian faith to differing degrees; however their lifestyles and beliefs seem to indicate if anything that they are mainly liberal/moderate Christians, "if" christians at all. I'm not sure of Amy's faith/beliefs/philosophies, but former member what's his name{whom founded the band w/Amy years ago, as just the two of em, and who's name for some reason escapes me} is{or at least "was"} a Christian{to what extent, I'm not sure}.
Drummer, Rocky Grey seems to eb the one devoted evangelical member, he was the founder of Christian death metal group "Soul Embraced and spent some time in Christian metalcore group "Living Sacrifice".

The band has come out many times and denied beeing a christian group and said basically what I've just said over and over again.

The song "Tourniquet" was written by the one explicit christian member Rocky Gray{drummer} and is is a sense about suicide, but it's poetic symbolism{only Rocky knows for sure}.

You may observe that Amy wrote a song on there that uses goddess imagery.

The band is a kick butt group thouigh.

Also, I want to make one more comparison here in regards to the idea that Evanescnece is a Christian band.

"Megadeth"{thrash gods} lead vocalist/guitarist/main lyric writer and main founding member Dave Mustaine is a Christian, some of his lyrics reflect his Christian world view{subtly}, on their newest album Dave even included a song that refers to some biblical stories as if they actually happenned, and has a song called "Shadow of deth" which is merely metal guitar solos w/Dave reciting in his sneering metal voice the 23rd psalm.
Everyone knows nowadays that Dave is Christian, even though he rarely talks about it because he likes to keep it about the music mostly{about the art form}.
By the rational that some people use to claim Evanescence beeing a christian band{I remembered the other christian members name whom founded the band w/Amy and has left the band some time ago; Ben} then it could be said using that rationale that Megadeth is a christian band because it's mian memebr happens to beleive in christianity, it could be said that Alice Coopers band is Christian because Alice is a born againer.
All these people would deny such a classification vehemently and have.
Some members are christians but the band are not.

Also, using the same rationale, it could be claimed that half of the world of pop and rap/r and b,etc,stars are Christian bands/musicians/singers,etc, because thewy often claim christian beliefs and thank the christian god at awards shows for their luxuriuos awards, and because they oftne have songs here and there on their albums sprinkled abouyt that have christian themes or ideas.
But few people whom claim Evanescnece are a christian band would go so far as to say the same of these others.

I hope the author of this thread gets it now.

I'm starting to like Evanescnece because Amy's voice is so unique and they don't sound like every other band out there. No, they are not a Christian band.

I love Evanescence They deal with real issues.. it's part of life.

but she cannot do it live,in concert. if that doesn't matter to her fans,cool. i have the cd and every song on it is dark.that doesn't last a long time for me.they have the tendency to bring me down so the cd now sits there. i once thought it a beautiful selection of music,and amazing how many of my close friends have it but after awhile;it goes bye bye.

Great band!
