  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I think I take a different perspective- Catholics ought to stay away from Hollywood brand humanist flavoured Christianity.

What pathetic creatures are we if we want to go to anything "Christian flavoured"

come on- we are Catholics, we aren't obsessed. We are real people who live as Catholics. We aren't people who are "interested in religion"- wierdos and losers.

What?? We are the largest "Christian" faith out there. Why would you disassociate us from the rest fo the Christian world? Big mistake IMHO!

We are looking at this as entertainment. We watch entertainment all the time; American Idol, Survivor, sitcoms, CNN News....

There is nothing wrong with interjecting a good bit of biblical twist into our lives.

And as for not being obsessed...uh I am! I like to say I am on fire for God and my faith. I try to incorporate it in just about everything in my life. I live it! My music, my job, my family, and my entertainment, and so much more! Do this has created such a great bond with God and brought me closer and closer to Him day after day. I look back day after day and think "Wow, if I can't believe I wasn't this close to Him before" and I am only looking back a month or so. So I am a wierdo for it? Sorry, but to me I think I was more of a wierdo for not being so on fire for Him before.

this is one of those things that i am stuck on.

it is utter blasphemy. and if this were a Christian nation, it would prolly be banned.

yet it looks so good!

ugh. so horrible lol

Please explain how it is blastphemy? Many think God doesn't have a sense of humor. I disagree and feel He does, but also encourages it.

The message and getting the lessons of the scripture out there are done in so many ways. This is just another way.

I was listening to the radio this morning on the way to work, and they said that this is the most expensive comedy made, they spent $175mil making this movie, they also said (according to critics) that the last 30 mins of the movie is like the sermon of the movie and the producers tried to end it by making everyone happing, not mocking christianity like most other movies do, and even going as far as making sure that the enviromentals reamain happy about this as well..

The movie looks cool. I've been wondering about the whole flood thing myself... why is it going to be flooded again??? So I think that's also why I wanted to see the movie.

Also a lil off-topic, has anybody seen the trailers for the new Robin Williams movie where he's a priest? That looks soo hilarious!

Just saw it today. I thought it was funny, and had a good message about prayer. St one punt God is talking to Evan's wife and hour says, "When people pray for patience do you think God just gives them patience or do you think He gives them the opportunity to be patient." For a Hollywood movie that's a pretty good view of prayer and growing in virtue.

Nobody is claiming to be God. It is acting. Open your mind a bit brotha!

Morgan Freeman isn't trying to mislead people to follow him but is teaching people lessons to follow Him who gave him the talent and the message to send.

Then I guess James Caviezel shouldn't have given us such a great portrayal of Jesus. The difference is that the person is acting and we know the person is acting. And for the record, I thought Evan Almighty was cute. There was absolutely nothing blasphemous about it.

The first movie, Bruce almighty, was pretty funny, and although had blashphemous statments, it did have a good message in the middle of it.
I think what agitated me the most in that film was where God didn't correct him beforehand or after when he used His 'powers' to do sexual things with a woman he was living with. His silence on that gave the appearance of scandal. That I found blashphemous.

I would see that as a lesson that is true in scripture that says God gives man the freewill to sin and even Jesus was subject, but didn't succomb to it. In that movie, God didn't turn him into God, but to experience only a taste to satisfy a lesson needed in his life at that time. We get powers here that we abuse on the same level and we must learn as he learned there that abuse will only turn into trouble 10 fold.

Did I mention my glass is half full!
