  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

EVs are Electric Vehicles, what do you think about the current state of the Electric Vehicles in the US?

I personally want to buy an electric car. I like the idea of better performance and cleaner energy, but it seems like people in general and corporate America isnt real interested in EV.

Ive seen maybe twenty or thirty even hybrids on the road. I can count the number of recharging stations Ive seen in my life on one hand.

Much of the opposition seems to come from auto makers and fossil fuel producers.

I think it has less to do with auto makers and the gas industry than with the status of the car in American culture.

A few decades ago, big gas-guzzling muscle cars were symbols of America, and are still iconic. Now it's big gas-guzzling SUVs. If you want to see itty-bitty hybrids whizzing around American roads, it's the *culture* that needs to change.

Sometimes all it takes is for Hollywood or MTV to start putting a few hybrids in movies or videos. Then people see them and think "hmm...I think I might want one of those."

One had best be prepared to upgrade the power grid.

And unless one is willing to convert to nuclear power, you'll just be using fossil fuels anyways, but from a more removed source. Just because you're plugging it into a wall doesn't mean you're not burning a dinosaur somewhere to get that power.

My husband did a little study on current affordibility of electric cars, and discovered that while we here in So-Cal pay about $2.90/gallon for gasoline, the equivalent in electricity out of the pump will cost you about $7.00. It's already not cost-effective.
