  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm not in a position to say across a webboard, especially if your doctors have found a specific gene.

I gave the dumbed down version.
You don't like the answer.

Well, you have successfully answered a question I was thinking, but decided not to ask....

Anyway, no. What you said was not anything. Very little of what you have said has really meant anything. You have a talent for stringing words together in ways which are grammatically correct, but actually mean nothing. This is a skill which must be culitivated and practiced--go too far in one direction, and you give yourself away as talking nonsense; go too far in another direction, and you risk saying too much, and revealing that there is nothing substantial behind the talk. You include just enough truth to make an idea feasible; then retreat, deny all terms and definitions, and claim an idea is too complicated to be discussed at all the right times. You've obviously practiced this for quite a while. Congratulations, not many people can make a living off of talking in circles--I can only think of talk show hosts, polticians, Buddha and con-artists.

She's getting paid to do this? Dang, I picked the wrong career...

I wonder...
can you answer a question without being
condescending?
I wonder...
can you *Learn* from a "Masterful-mentor" as Merlin, yes she, just happens to be.

Merlin has more truely Beneficial, Blessed skills, than you evidently are capable of even comprehending.
"Condescending" had never been one of them.

She gave you people here 'Closed-minded' to boot, generously of her time today, which
you evidently are not deserving of.

I have two *explanatory posts* sitting here, almost ready to send - but now, I wonder ~ should I even bother??

Hmmm...all Merlin has said is "I know how to teach people to not feel pain!" and when others asked how, no answer was given. Instead, words like "cancering" were thrown around. Very little that was said actually makes any sense, I'm sorry to say.

If you would deign to post them in a more legible font I'd happily read them through.

It's the old "you'll never understand because you're close minded" defense.

Followed by the "declare victory and run away" defense.

I am actually quite open-minded, and I am open to the healing power of non-western, non-medicinal techniques. However I will not just accept a non-explanation of "It just happens, I can do it, and teach you how, but I won't, so just take my word for it." I was willing to consider the idea, but it became clear that, either there was no idea to consider, or, for whatever reason, the people with the idea are refusing to give it, and are talking in circles instead. As was said in another thread, being "open minded" is not the same as being gullible.

I don't think so; I've posted over 1400x in CF, and people respond to my posts *understanding* adequately enough.

When you all are READY (to stop looking for 'excuses, to mock & ridicule' - simply because you don't understand), THEN - maybe we can have some meaningful discourse.

I'm not trying to be mean or anything but frankly, I find your posts annoying as anything I have read in a while simply because of your font color, random caps, changes of color, etc. In fact, I skip over your posts because of it.

Did you respond to any of my posts requesting clarification? If you did, I'm sorry, but I missed it. Please drag and click?

So is there a sin too big for Jesus to die for?
You appear to have something in mind.Perhaps a personal experience. If one repents, one can be forgiven. It's often harder to do the right thing than the wrong.Assisted suicide looks like a Godsend.Certainly there are cases that seem to be fitting. The patient is in terrible pain, with no hope of recovery, the moneys gone and everyone just wants to get on with their life. The patient agrees.Still, would they feel the same if we behaved differently. If we willingly sat with them, read to them and did all that we could to help them through. If we assured them that they were not a burdon, and that helping them was an important part of OUR life.Another point that has occoured to me.Assisted suicide could in fact become a requirement. One has terminal whatever and the medical community has determined that it's not cost effective to continue treating a dieing patient in any way.So, the family is called and told of the situation and a date is set for the patient to die. This is not the kind of world I want to live in,one that disregards the very young, old, and infirm. That says they are useless burdons on society and need to be gotten rid of.

For, I don't want to be responsible for someone else's life and I don't want to be responsible for their death.
Just like I don't want someone to dictate to me how to live my life or how I'm going to die.

Consider this; In many cases assisted sucide needs to be written in a legal document because those on life support do not have cognative ability.

Edit: I honestly don't know any doctor or social worker that would talk someone into commiting assisted sucide more then try to talk them into better ways of going about it. For example one time a patient wanted to have 'hydration only' in her legal documentation.

Well, a quick fix for the colours is to select the text, but the use of caps is still annoying.

She isn't the only poster that uses a not so readible writing style.

True. I'm just guessing here, but the hair-trigger response with warnings around here probably has more than a few people hesitant to speak their mind when it could potentially be taken as an attack.

I find it a bit passive-aggressive to deliberately make your posts more difficult to read than necessary. Running text together in one huge block without sufficient spacing, reducing visual color contrast (remember, 10% of males are color blind) and other techniques show - in my opinion - disregard for a significant number of people.

Just because no one's blunt enough to point it out doesn't mean they aren't thinking it. I'm just exceptionally blunt. I don't do it to be impolite, I simply don't have a lot of control over it.

Besides, there is such a thing as being too polite.

I heard that someone i producing an ALL CAPS version of the King James, to make it even MORE true!

Are they going to put multiple exclamation marks after each line too? That makes it an indisputable truth!!!11!11!

If you want to know more, start a new thread in an appropriate forum.
The OP is on Euthanasia, not pain control.

You mean some kind of "Hey Merlin, what the heck are you talking about?" thread?

Which would be more appropriate, someone else starting a thread that by its very nature could be considered an attack on you...

OR

Taking the initiative and standing up for yourself by simply answering the question yourself so that this thread isn't derailed by the suspicious nature of your evasive remarks?

You brought up pain control as an argument against euthanasia. Thus it's not off topic for you to actually... oh, I don't know... support your argument instead of just insisting over and over that you're right without explaining how or why.

For it, if the individual so chooses. I think it's cruel to keep somebody alive against his or her will when they have very painful physical problems that will result in their death, or leaves them without any sort of quality of life, i.e. a "vegetable."

In cases in which the patient has not expressed his/her wishes and is unable to communicate, the decision to fall to family members. In the case of no family members, then possibly close friends. In the case of neither, I dunno.
