  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

i think that the point of fasting is to sacrificing ourselves of things we do not need in order to focus more on Christ.

Christ is something we need.

Therefore, fasting from the Eucharist would be pointless because the means (fasting from the Eucharist) actually takes away from the end (focusing more on Christ).

I was just doing some visualization of what it would be like to not recieve in my parish. Since everybody goes up regardless of thier spiritual state in my parish, I think it would almost be scadalous not to go up! It sure would create some interesting looks during coffee and donuts in the narthex after Mass.

Thanks for all your input.

That's an interesting thought. You say that b/c everyone else goes up, it would be "scandalous" if you didn't. Well, let's be honest here: the parishioners with unconfessed mortal sins on their souls who receive communion anyway are the ones who are committing a scandal! If people gossip about someone who doesn't receive, maybe they are trying to rationalize their own actions???

Metanoia, you are obsessing about this way too much. Stop! :) Satan sends us obsessions like this to make us sick (I should know. I'm scrupulous, remember?). Take the others' advice. Don't stop receiving Christ! Without Him, there is no life within you.

I will try during lent to receive the Eucharist more, spend more time in adoration and prayer, and will withold myself from chocolate, crisps, all alcohol, and possibly all candy and cookies as well.
It sounds like trivial things, but being someone who loves to eat them, it's a very daily reminder.
I do not think I could.. sustain myself very well in Lent without Eucharist.
some one said we have to fast for a minimum of 1 hour prior to
communion....

mass is 45 minutes ;
trip from home to mass is _____
difference is what makes up 60 minutes ...

We can hold our water for 90 minutes at the show , super bowl ,
ball game , kids sports ....

any one that takes that approach is being legalistic and not approaching it properly

Which is worse to receive the Eucharist unworthly or to abstain from the Eucharist when you are in a state of grace?
Receiving communion unworthily is sacrilegious and abstaining from communion when properly disposed is not a sinful act to my knowledge however I suppose ones intention could make it venial.

I'm not sure if your 'one hour' refers to my post. *L* I ment that I would abstain from these things all during lent, not just the hour fast before the Eucharist. I don't eat anything before Mass on sunday. *ss* We have a big brunch and fellowship afterwards. But my post refers to abstaining from crips, cookies and all the rest during the fourty days of Lent.
